Weekend find$...Part 2 (read below first)

I noticed a dark spot in the dirt & began to pull out lots of flat, 1 pc. buttons left & right, checking all the backmarks for something good. Scanning the dirt pile I'd tossed aside... the last button was a big surprise! :surprised: It's an Early Navy eagle, an Alberts NV-75b. Seems wierd to put a shank through this great design. Maybe they were "recycled" for regular clothes? After I was satisfied I "Gut R Done" there....I did a test hole in another area & saw more dark soil, shell, & a piece of an early crock jug came out. I opened the hole & lots of pontil parts began to emerge, but all broke  The biggest heartbraker was a historical flask. I think I gut all the pieces of this jug & may try to glue it sometime like a real archie  Only coin was an indian head. I ended up with some cool iron relics, but the pic didn't come out....I'll have to take another. One was a very cool mid-1800's padlock with key in the same hole! HH, Bill

Since the books is wrong...Lets call this a sooper rare error...they musta stuck the shank on the wrong side....yea, that's it  "Gut It Done"

in a few weeks. Bill quite a few have been posted and here is mine. I believe Tice said they were leftovers or something to that effect and just used as civilian buttons.
Nice finds by the way!
Don

Your's is seriously "unlisted"...at least in Alberts. They have a 75a & b which is mine. The 75a has stars around the edge instead of the words like yours. Re-using leftovers makes sense, as I see no other reason to shank over that proud eagle :) HH, Bill

Take Care,
