WEEKEND FINDS AND A FEW QUESTIONS ON THE T2

Went out in the woods this weekend on a random roam and picked up a few buttons and relics on the way.
A large decorated colonial button.
A bridal piece.
A few regular buttons..Are the gray colored buttons pewter? They only read 57 or so on the T2 as a brass or copper that
size would read at least75 or 77 maybe a little above.
And my best find is a button that has a LA on it and under that is a bunch of stars with a 1 in the center..
The button is worn and i tried to clean it to read it better.I think its a light artillery button from the war of 1812 but the buttons i have seen had a LA with the stars just surrounding the LA..Not underneath with a 1 in the middle...
Could it be revolutionary war button?
Also i found 2 colonial ax heads but i left them. And the largest horse shoe i have ever seen but i left that also

My other question is how often shoulD you ground balance?I always do when i change the terrain but if i am in the same terrain all day how often should i ground balance.
I have noticed that the T2 will give off good signals to the deep colonial iron. You could dig alot for nothing.I find that if you sweep the coil over it as fast as you can possibly swing back and forth it will throw off that iron grunt....

It is a War of 1812 "Light Artillery, 1st regiment" button & a nice find. I don't have my Alberts book handy, but there are several different varieties some of which may date up to about 1820 or so (though most relic hunters still refer to them as 1812's). Most all of mine have little differences in the lettering, stars, etc. & with different backmarks & such it seems no 2 are alike.
Here's a sick "Artillery" one I dug that's the same time period as yours.....
