Weekend finds.

Well, my buddy Lee and I went to the picnic ground site last Thursday. We got to our hotel site too early to check in so we headed to another old city park we hunted last year. We weren't there fifteen minutes and a city worker came over and said no metal detecting allowed. Come to find out that sometime last year three or four guys came in there and just tore the crap out of that park and thanks to these jerks another park is now closed to metal detecting!!! Lee talked this city employee into letting us detect and we even showed him how we dig our plugs and cover them up and he was very impressed. He said it was too bad that those other guys weren't as careful as we were. Since we came 300 miles to detect the park this guy said to go ahead and detect today, but if you are here tomorrow then I will have to ask you to leave. Went to the picnic ground on Friday and we hunted it pretty hard and all I got was a 1910 wheat penny!! Very disappointed to say the least as I had great expectations of finding some nice coins at this place. Still no seated coins fellas, but I will keep trying....:) My take was eight silver coins and seven wheats. I got a 35, 40 and two 42 mercs, a 64 rosie, a 51 quarter and a 43 and 45 war nickles. My wheats were a 1910 key date, but missing the S mint mark...:(, a 21, 28, 37, 42, 44 and 55. I also got a nice little silver ring. My buddy got some mercs and rosie's, some wheats and a nice 1912 barber dime, but I didn't get his head count or any pics. Thanks again to all you guys for the tips on hunting fields. I'm just sorry I didn't have more to show for your efforts, but I will keep trying and my seated coin find will happen one of these days.........:) HH.

Too bad you didn't get your seated this weekend but you sure don't have anything to complain about. You did very well on the finds and I am sure that you will come upon a seated some time this year. Congrats on all your great finds this weekend and keep up the great job on the Silver finds.

Your silver looks real clean.I also had high hopes this weekend, nothing turned up, not even 1 wheat.I am also waiting for my first barber or walker, I think I still need practice

Thanks Mike. I was hoping to do better at the picnic grounds, but there is always another day. I'm thinking about getting a WOT coil and trying again one of these days. Hope the weather is nice for your hunt and good luck........:) HH.

Eddie

Thanks diggingfix. I know you aren't suppose to clean your coins, but since I had no key dates I shined them up for their picture........:) Don't give up on that barber or walker. They will come and just keep a positive attitude.........:) I haven't given up on my first seated coin yet and I know it will happen one of these days. HH.

Eddie

Thanks LowRider. It's too bad those jerks that tore up that park didn't show a little more respect and do a better job of filling in their holes and maybe that park would still be open to detectorists like me who leave hardly any trace that I was even there. It only takes one guy to ruin it for the rest of us, but in this case it was three or four guys who ruined it!!! HH.

Thanks James. It was a good weekend for Lee and I and although the picnic grounds didn't pan out, we still had a good time being out in the fresh air and enjoying this great hobby. I'm not giving up on my first seated coin and if I have to come to the mid west or even the east coast to find one then I might have to do that..........: ) HH.

Is nice! I don't use it alot but I like using it in sights that I have hunted to death and with it I still manage to squeek out a coin every now and then :) If you get one you will like it :)

From your lips to gods ears I hope it nice out for my days also :)

Mike

I have heard some good things about the WOT coil and I guess the pudding is in the cake and to find out for myself I had better get one and give it a try. Again, I hope the weather gods are with you on your hunt..........:) HH.

Eddie

Did you use the Platypus? I'm pretty impressed with mine so far... Right now I'm playing with an X-12 :)

Hi Joe,
I had to use my stock ten inch coil. I ordered another lower shaft for my Platypus and left the darn thing at the house!! I could have sworn I had it in my truck and from now on I'm making a check off list........:) Must have had one of my CRS moments......:) I'm still debating on whether to get the WOT or the Excelerator coil. Let me know how your X-12 works out. HH.

Eddie

I'll take silver any day..........:) I was hoping for a seated coin, but I'm more upset with those jerks who tore up that city park we love to hunt and now thanks to them nobody is allowed to metal detect in the park. HH.

Eddie

well that really sucks! Sorry to hear that but common story around the country. I can't tell you how many parks I've seen holes dug and not properly filled back in. But some are just 'stuck on stupid'!
