Weekend Goodies...

Well, this weekend was a busy one. I didn't really get much time to hunt, nor did I really get much time to post.

Saturday, I only had about 20 - 25 minutes to hunt. I went to a football field that I've found many coins at, and a few pieces of jewelry. I managed to pull up some clad, and this nice little silver ring:

It's missing one of the slabs of faux-turquoise. Oh well, at least it's silver.

Sunday, I got out of work a few hours earlier than I expected. I drove around, looking for a place to hunt in the drizzle. It was a might on the chilly side, and I decided not to hunt the spot I stopped at, so I headed home. I turned onto my street, when I suddenly decided to head over to the old swimming hole I found. I searched it for about an hour, and didn't find squat, other than some really deep silt/muck that I almost got stuck in. I may have to wait for the water level to go down in summer, or a good-sized flood to re-arrange the bottom, before I find anything much else at that spot.

I decided to walk back to my van, parked about 100' away, change out of my water gear, and gear up for a land hunt, as the rain had moved on by this time. I didn't have all that long, about an hour, before I would have to go back home. I did a little scouting around at in a little spot I hadn't really searched before. Within a few minutes, I had pulled up a Wheat. A little ways away, I get a similar signal, but it had a '45D Merc and a Wheat in the hole. Here's the Merc, all cleaned up:

I ended up getting one more Wheat from that spot before I went home.

I would have posted those last night, but, a buddy of mine had called and said that my desktop PC was fixed (had to replace the HDD and reload the O/S), and that I could come by and get it anytime that night. So, most of Sunday night was spent getting that PC back online, rigging a network for my laptop and the desktop, and installing software. Yee. Haa.

Today, I decided to go and look at a different park, which was in the middle of a mill-race. I wanted to get in the water, and scout around to see if anyone swam here (it's a BIG mill-race), or if they ever lost coins into the water from either of the bridges. I knew there would be fishing tackle, as I've seen folks catch some nice smallmouth out of here.

Well, when I got there, the water was up a bit, and really murky. A lot of tannins in the water, turning it into a brownish-translucent liquid. It was deep enough that I couldn't see the bottom. Now, normally, that wouldn't bother me, but I really wanted to "see" the bottom, so I could see if there were a lot of large stones, or if the bottom was the same gravel/sand mix that was at the other swimming hole. I had to probe the water with a stick, and found out the water is about 2' deep. I decided to play it safe and stay out of the water. Maybe later this year.

I got to thinking. I was only about 15 miles or so from the "old swimming hole", and the park that produced a Merc the day before. I decided to make that "Plan B" and drove there. I went straight to the little area where I got the Wheat's and the Merc, but this time, I started gridding it.

After a little bit, I had found a few more Wheat's. On one of my lanes, I was near the fence for the tennis courts, when I got another indicated 4" deep High Coin hit. I was thinking I had another Wheat. I flipped up the plug, checked, and my target was still in the hole. I started scooping out all the loose dirt and scanning it. Still nothing. I pulled out my Vibraprobe and scanned. STILL nothing. I started popping out divots of dirt from the sides of the hole, when I saw something flip up that we all dream about:

OMG! A half! And, it's a 1918 Walking Lib! Here she is, all cleaned up:

I ended the day with that Half, and 7 Wheat's.
