Weekend Hunts produced Big Silver, Tokens, and many other Treasures. Part:1.

Hello All! I'm back with another go around of finds made from this last weekend. I hope it doesn't disappoint in any way so let's get to it, shall we.

Friday Afternoon, it was a very nice day outdoors and at Noon, when I got off of work, I decided to go give the Golf Course in town here another try. The place is just too tempting and it is off limits during the Spring and Summer Months, so I have to enjoy the time I get in it while I can. Anyways, I started hunting on the North Side of the Golf Course and with-in 15 minutes, I found a Square Token Good For 2 Cakes. I am unsure of what brand it was but on the bottom on the back, it mentions Proctor & Gamble, so unsure as to who made it since it looks to have been in or near a fire at one time. When I initially found it, I thought it was just bent...but it turns out that is has been melted a bit and the front is mostly unreadable. After this find, I kept working this side and dug lots of Junk out of it. After awhile, I decided to move onto a different part of the Golf Course. I then found a Religious Pendant and stuck that in my pouch. As I started hunting, I looked up and found Rick(ND) heading out in my direction with his E-Trac. I stopped hunting and chatted with him for a few minutes and told him where I had been finding a few things this year. We then started hunting and it took awhile for either of us to find anything good. I got a couple Targets that were dancing around like Coin with Iron and had Rick check them out. Rick told me Iron and he was right on a few of them. I then got a nice sounding 28 that showed about 6" Deep and had Rick go over it. He told me that at first he didn't get anything but Iron...but when he turned to a different direction, then he caught a good reading part of the time. As I dug it, I told him it was Silver and it was. Out popped a 1903 Barber Dime. We then started hunting for awhile longer and then Rick told me he had to get going. On the way back to his Car, he got an Indian Head Signal and dug it. Out popped a 1906 IH from about 6" Deep. He was pretty happy with that since he didn't get skunked but he really would have liked to find a Barber. I looked at it and told him "way to go" and then he headed to the Car. The only thing was that he had lost the IH either putting his detector in the Car or out at the Gas Station when he pulled his Keys from his back pocket. Oh Well! I was there to witness that he did find one but that doesn't matter anymore since he has found 2 others now. As for me, I stayed until dark, and went waaaay down to the South Side of the Horse Track and found a V-Nickel, an Older Jefferson Nickel, and an Old Button. I am sure there is more Keepers out there somewhere and if I get another chance, I will be back out there trying my best to retrieve a few more before freeze-up.

Now on Saturday, I was suppose to meet up with Dale so we could do some detecting together but I couldn't get a hold of him at all. I waited until around 8:30am (late start) and headed out. The plan was to go to a different spot but that got changed. So I decided to go back where I got the 1865 IH last weekend and work it more. I had lost my Steel Probe for Surface Coins at the site and was hoping to retrieve this while there but it didn't happen. What I think happened was when my PVC Pipe Rivot broke free, the Probe fell down on the ground and the fellow I was chatting with that lived nearby seen me drop it and took it for himself. Reason I believe this is that he came over to chat again and I told him I had dropped it and when I mentioned this, he looked over to his house...like saying to himself... "it's over at my house", but he never told me that. He asked where I had lost it and I told him anywhere up near the front. He walked around looking but I figured that he had already picked it up since I would have found it when I went in the same locations I did a week ago. It didn't matter, he could have it if he does have it at home, I got another one from Rick for free as a gift so thanks again Rick for that Brass Probe.

As I hunted, I was finding a Wheatie here and a Wheatie there but nothing too great. I decided to give the Boulevard Area another try since last time, Dale had found a couple Wheats on them. There is Power Lines directly above this all the way down the street, making the detector go wacko. I had to drop the Sensitivity down to 12 Manual to keep it stable for me to hunt near them. As I got about middle of the Boulevard, and about 2' away from the sidewalk, I got a 27-28 reading that was somewhat warbly, but there was a strong enough Signal that told me to dig so I did just that. I was figuring another Wheatie and had no idea what was to surface. In Smartfind, I would have known, but in Digital, I had no clue. As I dug, I finally seen something Silver that came up with some dirt from about 10" Deep and thought it looked like a Quarter. I lost sight of it when the dirt fell back into the hole and it was covered up once more. I grabbed a fist full of dirt and laid it in the existing pile. I then ran the probe over it and it sang out. I pushed the dirt with the Probe and then there she was. A Walking Liberty Half Dollar! I couldn't believe my eyes! I checked the hole and silent. I filled it back in and as I put the Plug back, I thought to myself..."I'm gonna find another one"! Well, after a few more Wheats and a Half Hour later, I was about to cross over to another section of yard when I looked down and seen just a small area of grass that I didn't pass the Coil over that was about 10" in circumference. I figured I better swing the Coil over it and as I did, I got another Wheatie Hit that did 27-28, and was about 8" Deep. Another Wheatie I thought! I dug a Plug and at 8", another Walker shoots out of the hole and lands in the pile of dirt. I couldn't believe it!!! 2 Walkers from a site that both me and Dale had worked heavily just a week ago! When I seen the first Walker, I told myself..."I don't care if I find that Steel Probe, I got a Walker and that makes up for loosing it by far". I then went out into what appeared to be dirt overturned and got a good 28 that showed about 6" Deep. I dug that and out popped the Hamm's Beer Token, which is a really neat find. I worked a bit more and only found a Wheatie or 2. No other Silver was found on Saturday, only the 2 Walkers. Can you believe that???

Sunday, I decided to try a few different Sites, some Old Sites that I have hunted in the past and some New. First was an Old Fairgrounds that was converted to Ball Diamonds. I tried it for a few hours and only found a Silver Rosie, a few Wheats, and an IH. Site 2 was an Old Park, and I didn't stay long but I did get 3 Wheats from it so there might be something there. I then tried where a Church was at one time and nothing. Must have been overturned of filled. Site 4 was another Park and that is where I ended the weekend at. I got the 2 Junk Tokens, the Canadian Cent, a Merc, a Rosie, and a few Wheats from here but nothing too special. The Rosie I did find though, for some reason read like a Quarter on Smartfind and that is what I was expecting. It was shallow and I thought New Quarter but then the Dime came out and it didn't look right. I wiped off the front a bit and seen the date 1954 so I got lucky on that one, since if it would have read a Dime, I would have most likely left it behind due to all the New Coins I had already retrieved and I was getting tired of picking them up. I also found a newer Dog Tag and a FFA Pin which is also a neat item. It even has the Pin still attached! Well, that's the Story from these hunts and I hope you enjoyed it. Now to the Totals.

I found a total of 6 Silver. They were 2 Walking Liberty Halves dated 1936-d and 1939, 1 Barber Dime dated 1903, a Mercury Dime dated 1943, and 2 Roosevelt Dimes dated 1954 and 1963-d. For Nickels, I found 2 of them. They are a V-Nickel dated 1909 (looks like it was dropped when fairly new due to detail left) and a Jefferson Nickel dated 1941-s. I also found 1 Canadian Penny dated 1920 and 1 Indian Head dated 1892. There were 36 more Wheats found also. They are dated 12,(3)19,29,33,35,35-d,(2)36,(3)37-d,40,40-d,(3)41-d,(3)44-d,45-d,(2)46-d,(2)49-d,(2)50-d,(2)52-d,(2)53-d,54-d,(2)56-d and 58-d. The rest of the finds will be in Part:2. Hope you have enjoyed yet another of my postings and thanks for looking. Good Luck and HH to you all.[attachment 109707 DirtySilver.jpg][attachment 109709 CleanedSilver.jpg][attachment 109711 DirtyNickelsIHCanadianCent.jpg][attachment 109710 CleanedNickelsIHCanadianCent.jpg][attachment 109712 DirtyWheats.jpg][attachment 109713 CleanedWheats.jpg]

Here's the rest of the finds. For Tokens, I found a Hamm's Beer Token that reads on the front, From The Land Of Sky Blue Waters Hamm's Preferred America's Most Refreshing Beer and on the reverse it reads Hamm's Beer Theo. Hamm Brewing Co.You Buy St. Paul Minn. Hamm's Beer. I also found a Square Aluminum Token that was Good For 2 Cakes. It was near a Fire or in one since most of the front is melted so unknown who the maker was. The other 2 Tokens are Junk Tokens, 1 being Good For Amusement Only / No Cash Value and the other being Good For One Free Game / Awarded For Skill Property Of Machine. As for Misc. Items, I found a Junk Pin that reads The Light Of The World You Are on it, a neat Old Pin that reads FFA Vocational Agriculture, a Flattened Junk Button, a Lego Block, a Zipper Hanger with the Letter P on it, a Religious Item that reads St. Christopher Protect Us on the front and on the reverse it reads I Am A Catholic In Case Of An Accident Kindly Notify A Priest, an Aluminum Religious Pendant that reads Our Lady Of Victory, Pray For Us, A Brass Whatzit, a Junk Ring and a Button with an Eagle on it and the back reads City Button Works New York. Well that finally does it once again. Hope you enjoyed this posting and Good Luck and HH to you all. [attachment 109714 DirtyTokens.jpg][attachment 109716 CleanedTokensFront.jpg][attachment 109717 CleanedTokensBack.jpg][attachment 109719 DirtyMisc..jpg][attachment 109720 CleanedMisc..jpg]

Looks like you guys are going to get some snow. I haven't been detecting too much lately. I did find a civil war Wisconsin state seal cuff button in pretty nice shape. Didn't know what it was until I did a little poking on the internet. Real low coin count for the year but actually have more barbers than Mercs this year, and did manage to find seated and a large cent this year after last year's drought. Hopefully we will have another month of detecting before freeze up hear; may get a little snow next couple of days but don't think it will stay.

Chris

James that token is a spinner token used to see who will buy the round of beer, I seen that little bump in the middle of the token and when I seen the other side I seen the arrow to point to the person that buys. Try spinning it and you will see it spins for a while before it stops.
Nice find and very collectible.

Rick

I am hoping that the snow doesn't accumulate too much when we do get it. The big problem will be the ground freezing up since it rained. Hopefully, next week will be warm enough to keep it un-thawed so I can do some detecting. Even though you didn't get a bunch of Coins this year, at least you got some Seated and a Large Cent. More Barbers than Mercs is a huge plus also! Thanks for the reply and Good Luck and HH to you if your able to get out.

I wonder if it is worth much? Might have to look on Ebay to see if they have anything like it. I know it's a Collectable Piece, since Hamm's Beer Items are high on some Collectors list's, so I will have to do some searching on it. Thanks for the info Rick and Good Luck and HH if your able to get out before freeze-up.:detecting:

Nice finds James. I blew off work Tuesday and hunted all day..then again for a couple of hours yesterday. I need to get some pics and a post up...but for now...I need to get to work before 9:00. We got rain movin' in...in fact it's already here. Oh well....it has to stop sooner or later:thumbup:
Good luck on getting some more hunts in before the snow heads your way:thumbup:

:surprised: Well, it really doesn't surprise me James and you certainly made my meager post that I'm working on like a drop in the bucket compared to yours. No competition here as you and Bryce are the best as far as I am concerned. Very nice finds buddy and two WLH's.:clapping: Good luck on your next outing and don't forget to leave a couple for me. HH.

Eddie

Nice collection of tokens James.:clapping: I have only found three tokens since I started detecting, but I will get some if I hit the right spot and get lucky. HH.

Eddie

Just Kidding Buddy! I just had to do that to ya since you made it so easy Eddie.:punch::bouncy: I will leave a few for you if you ever come this way since there is always somewhere to hunt at and get some decent Keepers. Even though I did get 2 Walkers Eddie, you got the GOLD and that's one thing I didn't get this year. So you got me on that one buddy! Thanks for the reply and the kind words about Bryce and I. Were just 2 lucky fella's when we go out, that's all. Good Luck and HH Eddie.:detecting:

find either some empty lots in towns and get permission to hunt them or find some good Boulevards to hunt. Those are the Pristine Places to get them from but I have gotten some from Parks, Fairgrounds, and just about every other place imaginable. But Vacant Lots is where you get most of them. Thanks for the reply Eddie and hope you get a few Tokens yet. Good Luck and HH to you.:detecting:

Thanks for the tip on best places to find tokens. My best token though was found in the front yard of an old school. My guess is that some kid got into his dad's token stash, took it to school and lost it. Take care and HH.

Eddie

They could be in spots that would be the last spot a person would think about searching and that's why when you do find a Token, it's a great find that adds history to your collection. Good Luck and HH.
:detecting:

I'll keep you to your word on saving a couple for me buddy.:beers: No problem about the kind words. It's guys like you, Bryce and a few others who are more than happy to share their knowledge and my hat goes off to the Guvner as well for a great forum. No better place to meet great people who all love and enjoy such a wonderful hobby. HH.

Eddie

If it wasn't for this Forum, I doubt I would have ever thought about posting my finds since I knew about the other forum but just didn't care for it that much. Once I seen Findmall, I knew this was HOME. Thanks Guvner for the great Forum and all the others that have a hand in it also. Best Detecting Forum On Earth! And thanks again Eddie. Good Luck and HH.

I have dug a couple others in the past but I have so many Coins in different spots that I really didn't know where to look first. Thanks for passing the info onto others and thank you for looking at my finds. Good Luck and HH to you.:detecting:

Nice read and nice Walkers - I have found every other type of coin but never a silver half (well not gold coins either) - but very nice post.

That's tough to believe that you never have found a Silver Half before....but I guess it could be possible. Getting 1 is a hard task to do during a hunt but 2, now that is just plain luck. My best for Halves is 4 in 1 day though. 2 Barber Halves and 2 Walking Liberty Halves, one of each kind in a single hole, twice in 1 day. They were only spaced about 15' away from each other also so my Half Count shot up Real Quick! That was also my best Silver Day, 26 and ended the weekend with 31. Now that was one heck of a hunt! If you haven't seen that post, let me know and I will find it for ya. Anyways, thanks for the reply Andrus and I hope on your next outing, you land your Coil right over top of your first Silver Half. Good Luck and HH to you.

I don't think I've ever found a token of a name brand beer. I usually find the tax type of tokens...and not even very many of those. You found a lot of oddball ones. GOOD STUFF buddy:super:
