Weekend's hunts

Bartman

New member
Did a short hunt on Saturday afternoon in a pounded park (buddy and I have pulled over a thousand coins here). Anyway, managed to dig 4 wheaties (09 no vdb, 10, 18, 46) through the trash. Also managed a Baltimore Athletic League pendant (next to the last penny) and two nickels (don't pass those solid 57-8s).

Today (top 3 coins) I hunted for about 5 hours. I managed some nice finds, unfortunately just not much to show for it in terms of condition. In the to row is a Draped bust Large Cent and two unknown half cents. All the coins were toast in terms of condition. I can see the bust and the liberty on the large cent, but can't make much out of the half cents (I'm pretty sure one is a draped bust). I gently cleaned them in peroxide and then tried hot peroxide on the half cents when I couldn't see much. I might try soaking all three in olive oil in hopes of getting some more detail. I pulled some buttons and heel plates, but I've yet to clean those up.

Was disappointed as I couldn't get a good date off the coppers. Anyway, after the peroxide and olive oil I noticed that I could scrape off some of the patina/crud on one of them. Well, I did and underneath was an 1804 half cent. It looks better than the picture indicates. I still couldn't get a date off the draped bust large cent. I also added some other finds including a heel plate, 3 flat buttons and an unknown "T" thing, which I think might be some kind of suspender clip.
