Weight Difference between the Quattro and the Explorer.

Mick in Dubbo

New member
I've been looking closely at both these detectors. I have noticed that the Quattro only weighs 1700 grams (3pounds 7 ounces) without it's battery pack and from memory, the Explorer weighs 1900 grams. Is this Correct?
Also, I was wondering if the audio system on these machines are the same? I assume they are but not certain.
As far as their discrimination abilities go, in real life, how much better is the Explorer over the Quattro. I know that the Explorer has the 2 number ID, but so does the Quattro in it's deferent modes. Does the Smart Screen make much difference? The main reason I'm asking, is that my main coins of interest are in the screw cap range and although no detector can give perfect ID, are these detectors close enough in their audio and visual ID to matter which one you swing?
Thanks.

Quattro came into being to sort of present a user friendly Explorer and any difference in weight is negligable as I have used both..Unfortunately in doing so they left out a lot of the abilities of an Explorer and just not as good as an Explorer. Do yourself a favor buy yourself an Explorer and if bucks are the problem many of the original XS version out there in good condition that can be had used at a reasonable price..

Thanks everybody. I have no argument about the Explorer being the better machine, however the weight is a critical factor for me as an injury a couple of years back has left me with a weaker right arm (nerve damage). Last week was the first time in that time that I have been able to swing something like the Quattro.
A mear 200gms can unfortunately make a difference to me. If they are the same weight, then I'll go with the Explorer. A harness may be able to compensate for the weight, gut would be a bit annoying.
Thanks.
Mick Evans.
