Weird signal from the EXII

Ok, I was out hunting tonight and the EXII put out a high pitched ping like silver but very week and the signal showed deep. All the way down to the bottom of the depth display. I lost the signal then I came back to it about 10 minutes later. I repicked it up partialy. The detector started pinging on the highest tone like a pinball machine. I could not pinpoint it but had to move the detector away so it would clear the ping ping ping. Its the first time its done this and it did it in two other spots in this area. Darkness came and I didnt want to be digging here with no lights. Anybody else have it run on like that?:cry:

Actually I have had that happen in several places with the EX II but never had it happen with the old XS. The sound is extremely high pitch and locks in the far upper right corner with the square box and sounds like silver. It registers at the very bottom of the depth bar and is extremely difficult to pinpoint. So far I have dug 2 of these and both times they are down close to a foot and both times they have been rocks. This is using manual with IM 14 deep on and gain at 7 and sens. usually around 16 t 18 depending on site. I quit digging them so I assume they are hot rocks, having never seen or dug one before but only heard of them I can only surmise as to this is what they are.

Same thing happens here. I have learned to recognize that sound after two years of digging the *#^%@&*! things and will switch to digital and if it shows me a solid 31 I won't dig it.

Has anyone checked dug "hot rocks" to see if they are meteorites ? I'm curious if Hot Rocks and Meteorites give same type of readings. Meteorites are worth money !

Thanks for the input. Yes it was also a solid 31. The meteorites did cross my mind the other day when people mentioned hot rocks. But I thought that theory might have been covered all ready. I seen a knife maker at a gun show that was selling knifes and chunks of the meteor that they were made from. All for big money.. It came out of South America some where.

It is good, you should dig them. These are the targets that are not so choppy that I am talking about. Me and my buddy Dale were detecting in Island Park in Fargo, ND. and he was detecting next to a tree and got a solid 31 on digital (He found this out when he switched from smart-find to digital). Even in smart-find the target was registering as Iron or junk. He said heck with it and dug it since it sounded like it was good and out of the ground came a VF 1875-s Seated Liberty Quarter. I know that this is about hotrocks and meteorites, but I thought I would just give you a tip about some of those 31 signals and what to look for in a signal. You just might pass something good up.
