Well...here is a ring with unusual qualities....the most prominent quality is that ..

I think it is a "bummer"...just a gold "wanna be:

Here is the situation:

Hunted 4 hours today.windy, but not too bad;

found some clads, a Canadian 10 cent coin, and "wheatie" and

a ring with a band that keeps testing 12 K, but the sides and top test nothing

I tested the band for gold plating....negative

I tested the band three times.always comes up 12 K, but the ring looks like a big NOTHING.

Any ideas of what is going on here? Please post them and solve this mystery for me.

Steve, I have a "MIZER" gold testing kit which uses a few drops of acid and tests for yellow gold, white gold, gold- plated and platinum.

When I tested the gold band, the meter read "12"K...and there was no residual dark discoloration on the band which would have indicated otherwise.

I just don't understand why only the band would be made of gold.

I have a feeling that this ring ( and others that I have found of similar nature) are made in Asia...possibly India...I have seen rings from India that resemble this style ...but again, I'm not entirely sure of this.

Don't know then. My kit has you scratch the item across a slate stone. Then you put a drop of different karat acid on it and see what stays & what eats it away. Do you have a jeweler to take it to ? steve

Great fines anyway. It's the thrill of the hunt. Wish I could be out digging but I awoke to 2 inches of snow this morning.

I'll be out there ASAP and try to find what might have possibily been moved upwards and outwards during all this rain...

you are entirely correct ..it's the thrill of the hunt...I like to find anything hidden in that ocean , beach or park
