Well I ordered my G2 and it should be here July5th
So i will prob have a lot of questions soon.
Is there a color coded quick chart you know to help with the ID numbers?
Thanks for all you help in advance.
Tuolumne Kid

No color-coded chard that I know of, ninjaswinger.

If you are a coin hunter, expect nickels around 58, zinc pennies mid to upper 70s, copper pennies 82-83, dimes 83-84, quarters 86-ish to 88-ish.

Iron is 40 and below, foil is in the 40s...many square tabs (pop-tops) are in the upper 50s to mid 60s...

Steve

I have had loads of tabs hit solid 58s. I believe they hold just a touch longer when dragging pinpoint. It is more so with canslaw that has coin ID numbers. Aluminum will likely be deeper than a coin with same numbers. So if a target is way deeper than indicated it is probably trash.
This is not rocket science, but hearing it if you don't already know it... well that is kind a nice.
HH!

search for " readings".......

Well I GOT IT WHOOHOO now i need to go try it out..... Thanks for your info and suggestions.. Now i need to go to my local (public) parks and start hunting.

What do you say if someone is kinda giving you a hard time at a park? Maybe they tell you they dont want you there? I have not come across this yet but I thought I would ask the experts.

depends on who they are, keep your head down don't make eye contact and go about your business works for me, unless some one is genuinely interested i just grunt and keep moving, wont take long to work out the smart asses from people who want to understand what its all about, if i am asked what i found i say a few coins with a sad look on my face :clapping:

try find a place with not to much junk disc up high, high for me is mid 70's its important not to get overwhelmed by junk when starting out otherwise it might put you off, disc high learn the sweet sounds of some coins, the idea is to get the confidence up ! then you can turn disc down and will have a better idea of what a good target sounds like! this detecting business is about sound its why we have headphones numbers are to confirm what we are hearing if you learn sounds then numbers you will find more goodies i promise :clapping:

some may disagree with me and that's OK but this is not a competition its about having fun and learning from the top down in regards to discrimination, go slow listen hard, good targets sound good for the most part and junk sounds ugly.

i sure am no expert but if i was going try help some one that's how i would start. just looking at what Steve said dimes are 83-84 if you disc at 80 you will find dimes and quarters and learn the sound of a good target, once feeling confident on those sounds then disc down more.

prob going to get some heat over my thinking but my understanding is you wont find the kings treasure in one day but you may get overwhelmed in one day and put the thing away and what will you find then?

so my 2 bobs worth and that's all its worth but it worked for me and i am still detecting so?

its all fun so have some you will find coins and silver at those settings and if you get both then you would be happy hey :clapping:

Actually if you disc at 80 you'll find dimes quarters, copper pennies dollars and most silver stuff.

i find its a good idea to keep the head down as my swing is better and i find things by sight and avoid people who are annoying :clapping: disc can come down in time as you learn the machine and are not overwhelmed by the sounds at least that's how i did it.

let us know how you get on?

AJ

i was just going on Steves numbers Jim as to what is in that range i am in :ausflag: anything over 80 is junk or silver jewelry, only coins i hunt are 78,79,80 in junky lots and will check out other sweet sounding tones if they grab my interest, it is funny how hunting is different in each specific country, but the theroy is the same.

I turned it on last night and held the button down and it said G2 then a 1 does that mean I have software version and its 1. and if so Do I need to get the newer software? And how would I go about getting that. It is weird because it is a brand new G2.

Hi Ninja

Yes you are correct it does mean software version 1,dont be disheartened, mines pretty new and it says version 1 :)

Mine really deep and works well,i dont worry about having the lastest version, our version 1 is the same as the goldbug pro v3...

Just use it and dont worry about it mate,im theworlds worse for worrying about latest this and that, but after plenty of reading on here i think im ok with my lonely 1 ;)

Gaz..

I would not run and worry about a s/w change. I say give it some time swinging that coil and see how you do. You may be suprised.
