Thank God, we're all OK. No wind or water damage (we're about 10 miles from the ocean). I've got the generator going, Cable TV and Internet, gas, food and shelter. I'm BLESSED!!! Man, what a storm. So many trees down; my street is blocked on one end as a tree took down some wires across the road. Just went outside and it looks like they've got workers on it. I'm thinking it could be weeks before we have power again. However, I do have to go back to work tomorrow; they wanted me in today, but I just had too much to do... find gas, wait for the gas cans I ordered, get a space heater, a digital antenna (but cable is actually working). I'm telling you, 5 - 10 miles from me? DEVESTATED... No power, no water, no sewer, no telephone or cell phone service.
I can remember going to Breezy Point many times to fish as a kid.. something like 100 homes burned down. The subway system is down, the Brooklyn Battery tunnel is TOTALLY flooded from end to end. That has NEVER happened. This is so incredibly bad. My heart goes out to those who have lost so much... (and lives). Absolutely terrible storm. On Long Island, 90% are without power...
