Went back to All Metal Motion today.....

I have been playing with shooter's settings of Disc. 65 and notch in nickels. This is just dandy if you KNOW all that is in front of you is clad and tabs. Nickels are still on the board, just in case a nice chunk of gold would like to sneak in there.....right! However, today I went to a new park that did not seem to be eaten up with tabs and I was not getting the smaller objects as I thought I should, so, switched over to All Metal Motion.........things started hopping again. First this out of the box was a St. Christopher's medal. There it was, small but, glistening with that unmistakeble yellow color of gold, but, alas, 'twas not to be.......not today., After retreiving the piece it still looked like gold and was about the right weight for it's size, very small. But, I could find no markings and do not believe it is anything of value. But, I was hunting, so, it was a good day!!!

I to tried that setting the other day,and came to the conclusion that it only works for me in new parks. Whent to one of my older parks, didnt like the results felt i was missing to much and the f75 didnt seem to be going deep enough, thought I was loosing to much sensitivity.Maybe i am wrong but with all that disc. out your machine is filtering so much out that I am sure you are loosing sens.on a pretty large scale [jmho]..hh rick in mi.
ps..Metal detecting to me is like fishing, even though I may not be getting much, atleast I am enjoying myself.

Did you ever switch back to discrimination to ascertain the same target?

I don't like motion all metal because a weak signal often appear to be changes in ground mineralization, or change in coil height, and the VID is often blank.

Those DISC settings were only an experiment I don't hunt that way, I was in a super junk Picnic area with so much tabs and alum caps wanted to see what she do their so I set it to the MAX and found just what you guys did and came to all the same conclusions you guys got, but I did pull about 30 coin I wasn't able to get at a lower setting, so I figured post it maybe someone wanted to try it.

go-rebels, yup, I switched back and forth a number of times, just to see how the All Metal Motion sounded on the same target before I dug it up. I don't think the depth was affected for anything within the range accepted, in fact, I dug some pretty deep clad while in the high Disc settings. Shooter's settings are great for newer parks that you don't expect to find anything but clad anyway. That park I went to was an older park, just new to me for MD'ing. After a very short while, I was sure that I might be missing too much and switched back to AMM. Not to say the high Disc doesn't have its' place and I would have probably never tried those settings if Shooter hadn't mentioned them. One thing for sure, it works great if you are just 'skimming' an area for clad!!

Edit: I KNOW you don't hunt that way, shooter! I only brought it up because I thought it was fun when I was making a hurried run through the clad........

I had a short stint at an old park in Ohio this past summer where I only had about 1hr to hunt and tried medium/high sensitivity, no notch, DISC=65 with some pretty good results. I may have missed some deep copper (and all nickels) but was able to pick up tons of clad and some old silver that was resting a little deeper. When I backed the DISC to 60 then I started to pick up the Zincolns but maybe could have found some deep Indians. Next time...

That's funny, 'reb'........when I was using the high Disc with nickels notched in, I picked up my share of zincolns that showed up as dimes (solid 70-72) and even quarters! (~80)........I thought copper would produce a consintently higher tone around 70, is that not right??

I have two more bikes to fix, then, some excellent weather to do some hunting.......yay!

It's fun just being out and trying new settings enjoy guys hh......Dan
