Went out today for a few hours.

Well I went out to a new site I've been researching. First thing I realized is that Google Earth needs to be updated. Some of the areas I wanted to search are currently in the process of being developed, and are under about six feet of leveled dirt covering up a big field. This hunting spot had a big saw mill nearby that was torn down long ago, so my coin and jewelry shooting became a lot more like relic hunting because of all the Iron, nails, broken pot metal pieces, copper tubing, etc. and all of it was very over grown, and difficult to get the coil close to the ground in most places. Well, I found a few things but the most interesting piece was this item in the photo..... Either costume jewelry, or is it an old neck tie jewelry piece? Looks like it attached like a belt on one side. It's about the size of a quarter and it still has a stone or glass in it. Too bad the other four stones weren't attached. MXT says its zinc, but it feels too heavy to be zinc. The MXT was doing some odd things with targeting items.... Not sure but whole area may have rust throughout the dirt cause I was getting very strange readings.

This site I'm working was an early city that centered around the saw mill and was built as a timber supply for WWI....I believe the mill was built around 1915, and the town disappeared after all the timber was cut, and was completely gone by 1930. Supposedly 1500 people lived there during it's peak! I also found a piece of a broken bottle that was rose colored. Can anyone date the rose colored glass?

I agree with you on Goggle Earth its about five years behind, I gave up on trying to use it around some areas. Sounds like that site could produce some good finds keep us posted.

Good finds and that looks to be a belt buckle of sorts for a woman or maybe a clip that went on shoes to make them pretty back in the day. Whatever, it's interesting. If you get the junk out of there, I bet you'll be surprised what you'll find there. Keep cleaning the grounds and you will be rewarded. Sounds like you've got a good site to detect. Thanks for sharing and please keep us posted! HH, Nancy

Yes, it looks a lot better. Sure wish we knew what it was from. Have you tried the "Whatzit Forum" here? Thanks for sharing, Nancy

Yup, I put it up in "Whatzit Forum" but no posts on it yet. I went back to that same site where I found it again today... But this time I didn't find anything.... except some sort of a nickel plated neck charm, almost like a dog tag... Not very interesting, and definitely not old. Sure which I could have gotten to that site two - or three years ago. There is a whole field probably filled with old artifacts, near where I found the item above..... but it's all been leveled and covered over with dirt, soon to be filled with new homes. Then again, maybe I only found this item in the first place because of the dirt being pushed around by the developers. Who knows.

Ya never know why. I would try to go back and keep detecting it if possible. Keep us posted and good luck, Nancy
