Ken was real happy - big smile on his face when he got the first coin of the day and it was a 1946 Wheat penny. (Ken is a Brother in Christ who lives very near by - blocks, not miles. He has the Garrett GTAx-1250 I once had. I still kinda miss that machine.)
That was the only coin he found but he helped clean out a lot of trash from the area...so did I.
We went for breakfast first. Though it was supposed to be sunny and into the 50s it was cold, windy and no sun. But we stayed for about 3 hours. One hole I dug to find the target was beyond my elbow as I dug til I found the target. Took awhile to recover it. Man, it sounded SWEET in the headphones and on the screen. Finally got it out and it was a large chunk of metal. Once it was straightened out it appeared to be an arrow type sign. Had one hole for a nail to attach it to something. No wording on it so no idea what it was that it was a sign for. Maybe one of those P.T. Barnum signs "To the EGRESS". (Many people paid a lot of money to go see "The EGRESS" back in those circus days.)
Anyway, getting off the topic. Here is the finds for today. Not a lot but one sure made me a happy detectorist.

I knew there was still silver somewhere in that ball field. I know there has to be more.
Got a Whatchamacallit - well part of one. Since all the numbers aren't there would be hard to look up the patent to see what it was. I am guessing it was a pedal of some kind and this part came off and the other section stayed on whatever it came from.
So this ('41 Merc) is my first silver for 2009.
