Went wildcatting with the F75 LTD

I have been trying to find a place, in the middle of nowhere, where the old Timers around here say men used to get together and drink, play poker and shoot their guns in the 30's and for many years after. It is near a river and I think I am finally getting close. Here is what I found, a 1949 and 1957 wheat penny, a 1941 nickel, a skeleton key and lots of shotgun shell heads. The shotgun shells were all made before 1938. They are "Winchester Repeater", "Peters Victor", "REM-UMC newclub", "REM-UMC shurshot", "US Cartridge Climax", and "UMC nitroclub". I don't know what the bullet is. I really like the LTD.

I hope to find the area where they played poker and hope they got real drunk and scattered their money. I don't know but is seems like drinking, playing poker and shooting guns is not a real good combination.

Neat finds. Hope you find where the card tables were. I don't know what the bullet is either.

I find a lot of REM-UMC new club's and sure shot's in mostly 10 and 12 gauge and a couple of the Peters Victor shells too but the REM-UMC's have been much more prevalent. They turn up with surprising frequency in school yards that have been built since the 1960's. My guess is that there was a lot of hunting activity over the years in the woods and fields that became the school grounds.

I had read that Remington continued marketing UMC and Peters branded shells past WW II. Remington brought out plastic hulls in 1960, so paper hulled shot gun shell casings will most likely predate that.

I like that key. Interesting things you are finding. Keep talking to the folks that have memories of the old days! They are a great resource.

tvr,
The shells may not be as old as I thought, I was using the web sight http://members.shaw.ca/cartridge-corner/shotgun.htm to find out about them. It tells when the companies were bought out and I thought that was the end of that head stamp. But it could have been made for more years with the same head stamp and just a new owner. Researching and finding pieces of history is the most fun I have ever had in my life. I will keep talking to old timers and learn as much as I can.

scary for sure!..toxic combination!..hope ya find it!
