What advantages would I gain by upgrading?

dk dogs

New member
I purchased a Ace 250 last fall. I used it several times. I was really happy with it, but I have a bit of extra change in my pocket and was looking at an upgrade. I am looking at the Garrett 1350. I am really new to all this. I would like it if you could tell me if there is an advantage or not really?
Thanks,
Dave

Just use your extra cash to buy Garrett Propointer, sniper coil, 9x12 coil and Lesche digger. This will take you to the next level of hunting.

I got the pin pointer last year on your recommendation just have not used it yet.

I think that the GTP 1350 or GTI 1500 would make a great upgrade. You would be gaining some more notches to help with better discrimination, a better variety of coils to help get certain types of targets, and of course the ability to size (discrimination) the the target, which from my experience, gets you more coins per hour then any other machine.

Below is a link to the instructional videos on the GTP 1350 in case you haven't seen them...

It depends on how much you use your detector. Do you do a lot of detecting or just once in awhile? Have you thoroughly learned how to use the 250 and squeezed all the performance out of it. Adding the coils available for it changes what you find and how. Just changing detectors won't increase your finds, unless you just want another detector. The 1350 is a great machine and has more features but it won't find much more than the 250 will equipped with the extra coils, it will just make it easier to skip some of the junk, but it isn't magic.

I go out about 4 times a week for a min of about 5hrs each time out. I feel like I have gotten a good grasp on the 250. Will the other coils work on my 250. coins like dimes and pennies nickels will still read the same on the 250 with a better coil?

Garrett has a larger coil for the Ace as well as a 4.5 inch coil. The larger coil helps to cover more ground while the sniper coil will allow you to pick up targets that are too close to trash, for the larger coils to see, it also allows you to hunt real close to play equipment.
I have used the 1350 so I can't comment on it. I do have the GTI 1500 though and really like the sizing feature. It would be even better in the states as all your coins will show up as B size targets. The audio is better as well. With the Scorcher coil on, the audio information is significantly better, but you don't have the imaging information. It's better in that you listen to how wide the signal is, which is really useful.
On the down side, these detectors are noticeably heavier than the Ace. Because they process more information, they have a slower recovery speed and it takes time to properly master the pinpointing (imaging). I'm getting better at it, but still have room for improvement. I was getting rather peeved with mine there for a while, but came to realise that it was my lack of time with this machine that was bringing me unstuck.
The bottom line is, what are you looking for in a detector? If you want something that is light and easy to use (if you have a bad back) then the Ace is the machine to use. As you would know by know, it will keep surprising you with the little secrets that it keeps giving up to you. If you want a machine with great refinement and would like to leave a bit more junk in the ground, the the 1350/1500 would be a better choice. They can increase your finds because you will have a better idea of what you are recovering (this helps with confidence as well).
Mick Evans.
