What do you all suggest for freshwater at depths of at least 30ft?

I'm a gold dredger in California, & I'd like to take my prospecting to the next level. I'm hoping that by having a few hits with a submersible detector that I might avoid a lot of useless pothole digging.
The area I'd be using it in is highly mineralized with iron, (of course, usually where there is iron, there is gold associated with it). As I am a amatuer in the detecting process, any and all information/tips/tricks etc., will be greatly appreciated. I do own a Fisher Gold Bug, but am reluctant to try and create a underwater housing for it, (I don't have that much faith in my engineering skills). Once again, thank you to anyone that is willing to shine some light my way.

My thoughts would run along the lines of a waterproof PI unit, that is sensitive enought to read smaller gold, such as a Detector Pro HH PI, or maybe a White's Surfmaster PI PRO, they both run at 15Usecs which will take you down to around 10 grains in gold size. Problem is coil size underwater to get into crevices? The detector Pro PI has new probe that might work and you can also equip it with smaller coil than standard unit. I am not sure the iron(black sands) are so dense you might read them, on land is spread more, but should work. I would think they would drive a VLF crazy, such as Fisher CZ20, which probably wouldn't be as sensitive to the gold unless it were larger. Look on Detector Pro Head Hunter website, check out new proble model with coil addition, talk to owner, he maybe able to add some advice.

one last thought, some of the hand target probes are PI and think maybe there is one or more that is waterproof, might be an idea to use at lower cost to probe crevices, not sure of their sensitivity, could check with manufacturer. HH

You might try the Garrett Infinium PI.Might be what you are looking for.if you use the coil without the stick in your hand dont wear any metal.
Frank.

look at banners at top of web page, uniprobe is Detector Pro I was talking about!
