Well,
I went out this past Sunday to a place that was a five star resort in the hills near Clear Lake Ca. This place was apparently pretty awesome, my son and I discovered it a few years back while scouting for a deer hunting place.
I put is in my memory and when I got my 505 decided to give it a go when we discovered it there was still a gazebo and part of a rebuilt lodge still standing which has since burnt to the ground. While doing research on this place I discovered it was started in 1870 and by 1890 had 5 hotels and 350 cabins, a post office and store. EVERYTHING burned in 1934 never to reopen as a resort again there is a spring believed to contain healing waters there.

Well it is pretty tough detecting as age has REALLY taken its toll and nothing but a few foundations remain, there is a lot more history but this sums it up. I spent from daylight till about 3:00 in the afternoon detecting with nothing but square nails and some old busted bottle tops of some very pretty purple bottles which I left there.

Anyway, needless to say I was pretty discouraged no coins at all or anything else interesting for that matter I

Oh well you gave it a good try
Sometimes the places that you a sure will be great are not and visa versa

Maybe it was a resort that people did not need to carry cash
Perhaps they ran up a tab or it was all included ?
Better luck next time :)

The place look really good? But has it looked good someone else earlier. Possibly with an Xterra? lol.
I keep trying but look at the area closely and go to the un-obvious places also is there a place where they played ball games.

Did you search good around all the old trees? Chances are you are doing nothing wrong. Over the years I have hunted, (like many others) places that I just knew were going to be full of coins. Only to be skunked. Early on when I detected prime areas I tended to go too fast. Maybe next time you hit it, slow down and take your time. Make sure your are GB properely.

All i can say is WOW!! Thank you for all the responses, tips and suggestions, makes a MD noob feel VERY welcome... I am going to return to that school house and give it another go during sunny conditions I did get out for a couple hours in the rain today at some semi local parks and found the usual clad and a REALLY kewl ring, it looks like it may be Jewish, i am converting some photos now and will post in a few....
