What does the mod for the T2 accomplish?

king-ghidorah

New member
I was "told" That the T2 didn't perform well without the mod? What does the mod do as opposed to the original configuration. Where would one send the unit to have this procedure done?

the latest mod is an eviromental seal, and handle upgrade, a little over 2years ago the r6 revision on the electronics

Thompy... can you give more details regarding the r6 modification? king-ghodorah may
be interested in this particular modification. My Best... Thanks

i dont even remember, has been covered in the early stages of this forum, i think the 3b mode to help handle botttle tops, and the dp mode were the r6 version updates, i pretty much use the 2 tone and all metal modes for relic hunting

except to get a lot of users worked up.

There was some circuit changes to help in ID'ing rusty caps, and a tone setting addition. Like all changes, there are some trade off''s. The trade off with the R6 version was the loss of some ID'ing depth, and perhaps some operational differences. Version R5 is still a popular unit, and maybe the way to go with relic hunting.

So, if you were trying to get your hands on an R5 version is there some way to tell if its still the earlier version?

Mr. Bill... Thanks. I had my T2 modded with the r6. Maybe I shouldn't of? I bought the T2
for nuggethunting. Question: what about the smaller coil? Best to You and Yours... Jim S.

Canewrap... There is a way to tell when it is first on... it will say on the screen,
but, I do not remember the exact details on "how." If no one responds to your question,
ask it again on this forum as the subject.

I understand all of the later T2's have the r6 version. I have an early T2 and paid
$50 for the modification. You can tell if it doesn't have the modification by looking at the
manual and comparing the it with your T2.

I could be wrong(?) The r6 has more discrimination tone selections and a jefferson nickel
gives a high tone whereas the original T2, may have given a low tone. I hope someone will
verify this post...

Also, I believe the early T2's were not given a serial number... I do not know if the later T2's
have a serial number....

???? My Best to All... JS

I have a new T2- R5 version, but it's in the box. So I didn't check it against what you said.

All the T2's that were manufactured after the R6 revision, came with the R6 revision in them. This was done more out of customer demands rather than actual need to have it that way. Any time customers think they hear the words "Update", they stop purchasing the earlier versions, with the thoughts the updated one just has to be better. We know that's not necessary true. Regardless, it had a affect on overall sales so that's why they all now have version R6.

It did improve some certain types of hunting, but for relics, and gold sniping I feel the R5 version was better. Anything less than version R5, I would stay away from. They were mostly prototypes anyway.

Mr. Bill... I thank you for always being prudent and cool. You have added a positive
value to the forums you participate on. By telling it is like it is has always been the
best way...

Whether or not there will be a smaller coil manufactured, and the
difference you have just posted regarding the r5 vs the r6 allows a T2 user to make
intelligent decisions. With this said: Yes, I'm glad I bought my T2. But in hindsight,
regarding my perceived needs in nuggethunting I may have been better in not
having had it modified.

But then again, having it modified may have helped me in coinhunting. Also, knowing
the [now] uncertainty of the availability of a smaller coil, will allow me and others to
make a decision based on their/our feelings regarding the need for smaller coil.

cambor... I just looked... took the batteries out and peeked inside. There isn't a sticker in my T2 battery compartment
and I didn't get any serial number with the paperwork... I paid the asking price when I bought my T2, also sent in
the $50 for the update... All is fine with me... In July this year I took my T2 to eastern Nevada and found some nice stuff
in Ely and also on open range in central Nevada. So my T2 is not gathering dust in my closet. But it seems to be 'too noisy'
for me in trashy areas; thus, it seems I'm doing better in trashy areas using a detector that has a smaller coil.

I also got a pm from someone I trust... I now understand that Teknetices is still planning on a smaller coil, but it will
be slow to come... this is okay with me... it will give me a goal to keep swinging. Lucky me, I can still swing it for
hours walking a slow pace over level ground.

Mr. Bill... well here it is in December and "the small coil thing" has happened!
Teknetics now has the small coil. I have one on the way... I'm looking forward
to "sniping" around small areas with it... Have you any in stock yet?

They haven't shipped any that I'm aware of. You may have one "on the way", but that could still be a while.

All kidding aside, from what I have learned, it should be within the next couple of weeks.

Mr. Bill... Gosh, my coil was mailed on Tuesday. It arrived today (Friday).
I believe it is a prototype and the production ones may be slightly different.

I crudely measured it... About 4.75 inches in diameter. About 0.75 inches
thick with no coil cover which is fine with me. as I do not use them.

Weighs about 11-ounces. The rod connector lugs are strong... I really like
what I see...I'm really looking forward to using it... It looks rugged. A true
"sniper" coil... Will keep you posted...

It took me a bit to reconize the forum name. How are you ?

Well you have had your T2 hanging there for some time waiting for a good small nugget coil for it. I hope it helps you find plenty.

Best regards
Bill

Howdy Mr Bill... I took it out today for some coinhunting... To cut to the quick
it was worth waiting for... I hope to take it out to the goldfields in a few days.
