What is "the bounce"?

BlackX

New member
All of a sudden I'm reading (or simply noticing) folks using the term "the bounce" and wonder specifically what they mean by it.

(I've seen Moutray's pics of cursor movement but many msgs kind of read like it's not that exactly.)

I asked awhile back and never got a response. I have read that it's harder to get "the bounce" with the SE than older models.

I assume you are talking about the digital numbers bouncing. I normally get that right on the edge of too much sensitivity. Thats when i turn it down a bit and the numbers smooth out.

I asded the same question and the answer I received is-----

Hi Rich,
The bounce usually happens on deeper signals or corroded metal or co-located items. It usually moves on a horizontal plane to the left from the ideal cursor reading. Nails can cause the bounce but with time, you can usually tell the iron falses from say a deep or co-located silver signal. I have had nickel signals bounce way to the left with a broken signal so it can happen to high and low conductors. Mike Moutray has a series of screen readings that goes somewhat into detail on this. I will see if I can find some info and maybe post it up on Classroom, maybe sometime this weekend if I have the time.
