What is the difference ... X-terra 70 - 705

An updated (faster) processor, an additional notch segment, back light, Pinpoint sizing option, and my favorite....... Tracking ground balance offset. HH Randy

How much faster is the processor? and what advantage does this give in practical terms.

Is it possible to increase swing speed

does it recover faster after nulling out on ferrous targets

is there a measurable increase in target separation due to the faster processing of signals.

Thank you again Randy (Digger) I have and still am learning a great deal from your posts.

Thanks Dave

I dont' know what the clocking speeds are for the processors. And I don't know if they totally changed processors or updated the one used in the earlier series. I can only base my comments by comparing the two models side by side. In the real world, the upgraded processor of my 705 does allow for a quicker reset between targets. That doesn't necessarily mean you should hunt faster. (faster sweeps generally result in not overlapping your swaths and increase the chances of target masking). But it does allow for better target separation and a better "running balance" on the audio tones and visual TID. Especially when using the small DD coil and Sizing Pinpoint mode. As to it recovering after nulling out on ferrous targets.......I prefer to hunt in zero discrimination, multiple tones and hear the audio of every target that the coil passes over. So I don't get any nulling. It's simply a matter of preference. But I'd rather let my ears sort out the trash opposed to having rejected targets "null out". That way, I don't have to wonder if there is a coin was laying between two nails that each null out the Threshold. Instead, I hear a low tone, high tone and another low tone. By X-ing over the high tone target from several directions, I can isolate and pinpoint the "good stuff", effectively. JMHO HH Randy

OK, that clears things up for me. I have also read your article "Hunting by ear..." I am now convinced to give this method a serious try. In the past I have been overwhelmed by the audio information in multitones however listening to your audio clips made things a lot clearer for me.

Many thanks Randy

Dave

I think anyone would be happy with either one. My Xterra 70, SN#00060 purrs like a kitten and roars like a lion over deep bullets & buttons..
