What is the downside to using the EXII 8" coil...

...vs. the stock 10.5"? Obvious ground coverage loss aside, is there an appreciable loss in depth? Is the display thrown off?

Many thanks, Mike

What are the advantages of hunting with a smaller coil should be the question. I own the eight inch Minelab coil and bought it for a specific reason, to isolate coins near trash. The larger the coil the more area it picks up. In that coil area, many times there is a shallower or close piece of trash the detector will lock onto and you will not hear or detect a coin near or under the trash, and it constantly gets passed over. In my neck of the woods in the mid-west at old hunted out parks, the goodies are generally 5-8 inches deep. With an occassional exception, anything over 8 inches turns out to be a big washer, crushed can or other refuse. I have since down sized to the six inch coil because of the success of one of the forum members on here, and am having excellemt results finding OLD coins. Both the six and eight inch coil will do the job in my experience. It even does a better job in the hands of some of these guys on the forum that have been at it longer than me. Trust me, it's not being able to penetrate the ground to China but, being able to hear the coin in moderate trash. I'm also still learning from some of these guys, and I've been at it for about 8 years... Hope this improves your finds... HH
