What is the low down on the new 10" coil?

Hi. My hubby wanted to get me a x mas gift and I picked the Fisher 10" Elliptical DD coil for my GB SE. Has anyone used this coil and is it a lot better than the lil' guy? Also, I am new to this forum but, not new to the fever...

I am sure some of the guys will jump in here soon. It gets depth of the 11" DD but separates much better. My customers all love it.

I have one coming. Won't be able to use it till spring. But I hear it separates almost as well as the 5" coil and gets better depth. It has the long cable so you can take it in the water. I hope somebody posts that has it.

I don't think you could go wrong getting this coil. Those that have used it like the solid coil not catching on branches and stubble in fields.

Merry Christmas,
Rick N. MI

Thanks! I had a hard time choosing what I wanted for x mas because my keene sluice is beat to crap. I just couldn't get the idea of a new coil outa my head. When I get it, I will do some air tests and report back. I love my GB and the folks at Fisher. I have a unique connection to Dr.Gerhard R Fisher and the quest for gold.... Nothing cooler than prospecting on his old patented land.

My Two favorite coils, 10x5"DD for prospecting, grassy parks and junk loaded areas, NEL Tornado 12x13"DD for open areas where depth is paramount.

I've had the new 10" coil on my Omega and Gold Bug for a couple months and still like it a lot. I am not quite as gushy as at first, but still use it most often. It is almost as deep as the 11" and almost as clean in tight areas and trash as the 5". If you don't mind changing coils and have both it might not be worth buying it. If you don't have both already or hate to change coils, it is certainly way to go. IMHO of course!

I have one and I don't use the 11 inch or 5 inch anymore. It is almost as deep as the 11 and gets extremely good separation, just as good as the 5 in my opinion. I used it recently in Louisiana and I was very impressed. I won't be using the other two coils any time soon.

how does the 10x5 compare in targeting ?
Can you use it like a bigfoot and pull it back till the signal goes away and assume the target is at the tip ?

I've never used a bigfoot coil so I can't comment on that. I can tell you that if you pinpoint and it indicates that the target is under the middle of the coil, then it is there. I did some tests this weekend on some buried targets in my yard and the 11 inch coil is deeper than the 10x5, but I expected it to be. A Union cuff button laying flat at 9 inches, with the G2 sens maxed out, gave me a very faint whisper with the 11 inch coil but the numbers were dead on accurate. The 10x5 gave no indication that there was a target there. It might have in all metal but I didn't try that, but I will this week.

Based on my time with the G2 and testing, if you get the smallest, barely audible (barely a hum when you pass over the target), signal you'd better be checking the numbers. If they repeat with every pass of the coil you'd better dig it. The G2 is an awesome machine that cannot be beat in heavy iron sites. I know for relic hunting it is my "go to" machine when I run into heavy iron, nails, etc. If I'm in a cleaner site / area I will use the T2SE in boost mode.

The main thing is bury a few items in your yard that you spend your time looking to dig (coins, relics, etc). Measure the depth of each target and try anything and everthing with your machine to find out what it will do. That is the only way you can learn how it will react to a target under a nail, next to a pull tab, coin on edge, etc.

One more thing....use all metal when you are around power lines. That is the rule for all Fisher and Teknetics products. Since most people never test or use all metal it is important to learn it first in your test garden.
