What is this dry sand beach find?

I know it's a junk find and I wouldn't ordinarily bother you guys with it, but I keep thinking I've seen this somewhere and it's bothering me not being able to remember where. I even think I found another one years ago and discarded it. Anyway, it appears to be a leg? with a protective rubber tip. It's not magnetic and I think it's stainless steel. About an inch from the beveled end is hole with a rusted pin? or perhaps they were spring loaded pins/balls? There are definite wear marks on the bevel and maybe slight slide? marks along the length between the beveled end and indentation (stop? if the leg slides in and out). Somebody has to know what this is - any ideas?

Looks like the pall end of a spring loaded catch, like on an outboard motor.
Digger
