...if you look hard enough there are more similarities to this one than any of the other 8, 4 or 2 Escudos.

Yes, it definitely says "COPY" as you mentioned. You picked it up from the image and it is very clear with a magnifier, but I had trouble seeing it at first from the naked eye. I knew it wasn't of any value, but it's kinda fun to find and start trying to figure out what it's a copy of. Thanks.

I spent a couple of hours last night looking on the web for whatever this may be a copy of, but I think your example is the closest I've seen. I know it's a worthless fake, but it still makes me wonder where these copies come from and how one ends up six inches down in a hardly used playground in Edmond, Oklahoma. Thanks for the feedback.

Thanks for posting, Don!

I've seen these. A friend of mine bought one at a gift shop in the outer banks, NC and then he buried it at the beach where I was detecting, just to see me go bonkers when I found it. Normally, I don't check my finds while detecting. But I recognized this b/c I saw it at the gift shop days before!! So I just played it cool and didn't give him the satisfaction. <img src="/metal/html/biggrin.gif" border=0 width=15 height=15 alt=":D"> They are just cheap souvineers.
