What should I get?

Well I have had my new to me Explorer II for about a month now and love it. Only complaint is it is a bit heavy(stock coil) compared to my M6. My question to you fellow Explorer users, Is I have a little bit of extra money, by way of a gift. 150.00. Should I look to getting some premium headphones or a newer coil. Looking forward to all of your advice. I have entry level phones now.

There are many places where it will find stuff the stock coil won't! Just the right size to get between the stuff that the stock coil can't and still get real impressive depth. You can bump the sensitivity all the way up(manual sens.) in many places, max out the gain, go DEEP only, a little more volume, a little less iron mask and you have one deep seeking machine that can separate like nobodie's business!!!
HOWEVER, if you don't have the X-1 probe you might want that first. At least a handheld probe.

I have the X1 probe, so it sounds like the coil might be the preferred addition.

Well, since you mentioned it, buy a swingy-thingy, and the weight you spoke of won't be a factor.

I second the Swingy Thingy...Not really expensive either. Might want to shop the classifieds here. Used coils are just as good as new and they're less $$. Never had a bad experience with the folks here. It's possible though!

If you dont" have the pro coil get that ...light ....separates like a 8" coil...once you hit target ..do the wiggle and you will hear it!!!!!.....the pro coil is the best thing to happen to the explorer since the sunray probe!!!!!!!!!!...............see yah ........and have hella fun with your new toy!!!!!!

The order of accessories I feel for the Explorer or E Trac is the (1) X-1 probe (2) The 11 inch Pro coil (3) the SunRay X8 coil, but you should have a good set of headphones too that will be comfortable and good tones to them. Being you have the X-1 probe I would say the Pro coil would give you a lighter and more balanced coil and a great coil, but if you need a smaller coil the X-8 of SunRays cant be beat, infact I use it more than any coil at this time on my SE Pro and the E-Trac.

Not to sound dumb, but what is a swingy thing? Also when I start looking up coils I see the slim line coil, but not seeing much of the pro 11 inch offered much.

The Pro Coil is what you need.. Ive been going over my old sites and am consistently finding stuff Ive missed, all with trash in the hole or right beside it.. I also have the 10X12 SEF but havent found a thing I missed with the PRO coil. Also the SEF is heavy & I often get good sounding signals that turns out to be a falsing between 2 iron signals.. I seldom get that with the Pro coil.. You wont find many used Pro Coils for sale . I know mines not for sale . You could probably talk me out of the 10x12 though.. :detecting: wildherre

The Swingy thing is a bungee cord attached to a harness you wear, this when adjusted correctly will take a lot of the weight off the detector and more onto you which is not noticeable. Also if you drop your detector it will not hit the ground. On the top of this forum you will find a link to the swingy thing so you can get the info about it.

On coils the slimline you will find used, but the Pro coil that was made for the E-Trac and used on the SE Pro also are very hard to find used as most that have them are keeping them, but most Minelab dealer should have some in stock or can get you one, myself I am out right now and even sold mine off the E-Trac I used as the guy wanted one right away.

I am not sure what part of the country you are in, but if it were me..... I would purchase either the 11" Pro Coil or the 15" WOT coil. I have the Explorer II, and sold my original coil to purchase the Pro coil. Then recently I got the 15" WOT. The Pro coil is the perfect coil for all around use. It goes pretty deep and handles trash great! Not to mention it is ALOT lighter than the stock coil. Now....if you live in a part of the country where there are alot of older coins deeper than 7-8 inches.... You may want to keep your stock coil, and get the WOT 15". The WOT feels as light as the Pro Coil to me, it pinpoints and seperates trash wonderfully....... it only comes into problems in trash. So......the Pro coil is a great coil....but then again...so is your stock coil. Is it worth the $198 ??? I am not sure. Whichever you get.... you can't go wrong. Best of luck to you.

I am going to try and pick up a better set of headphones such as gray ghosts or sunrays.
I think either a coil OR headphones would be a good upgrade.

as good as the pro coil is, you already have a 10.5 inch, get the X8 it is even better at separating in trash and iron than the pro.. yo might get one for 125 bucks used

Is the Pro Coil the new DD coil or something else?

Also, who sells the Pro Coil separately? Any vendor recommendations?

Thx in advance!

Any Minelab dealer should stock the pro coil.. its the new stock coil for SE and Etrac and Safari's.. its 11 inches, and a bit different design, like a butterfly.. a bit lighter more stable and seems more sensitive and has better separation..
