What's comparable to a 1266x??

Mike Pilcher

New member
In my neck of the woods (West Tennessee) the Fisher 1266x is really popular for digging Civil War relics. Since it's no longer available, what is a comparable machine? I really like the notion of the "touch and go" operation.

Thanks for your suggestions,

Mike Pilcher

You can still find these used.I just saw one on Ebay for a 325.00 buy it now.You may want to consider a 1270 but it uses a different frequency and the control box is larger. The 1236x is still being sold new and under a warranty same frequency as the 1266 and probably would make a great relic detector especially in iron infested area's.

Yes, the 1266 was balanced 10X better,,,,,but the main thing the 1270 has going for it is manual ground balancing.....
the 1266 being fixed balance does not fair well in badly mineralized soils like red clay.

 Hi, I don't really think ANYTHING is comparable to the 1266X (it is a legend) but I would have to agree with the other posters. The 1270 and 1236 will be as close as you can get as far as newer units are concerned. Happy Hunting.:detecting:
