Whats the best pin pointer?

Hankscraft

New member
I see alot of these pin pointers on the market. Even some that connect to the headset. What do you all use and which one do you find works the best? Thanks. Tim

I absolutely LOVE my Garrett Pro-Pointer. It doesn't connect to my detector but it works VERY well. I give it a solid 4.5 out of 5. You can get it for about 100 -125 bucks.

[size=large]i go for the Garrett pro pointer myself. a standard argument point is that you don't lose the mounted probe but you can lose or drop the hand held probes. seems this question comes up every few weeks. i would recommend looking back on the whites, garrett and minelab posts for at least the last month and a half. all the pros and cons are covered. it still gets down to personal choice. you need to find someone with one or the other. some folks have both. a lot of issues involved. seemed so simple, didn't it?

I loved my Garrett right up until I went to my belt and noticed it was gone from the holster. I had a Whites Bullseye II that I got on a deal but it didn't give me the depth that I was used to with the Garrett. Sometimes that might be a good thing because it seemed hard sometimes to pinpoint because the Garrett read off the side as well as the tip. I ordered a Sunray DX-1 from tsgman and received it yesterday and while playing with it between storms it seems to do great but no real hunting time yet. At least if it is attached and it will be harder to lose! As was said before it is a personal opinion as to which is best but I think the Sunray will be best for my use.

garrets is harder to use than a bullseye, because it is more sensitive, however it is made better and expect a longer life span. If you open up a bullseye it looks to me theres 10..00 worth of parts and not worth the money, they charge.

Here's a link to some of the responses to pinpointers. http://www.findmall.com/read.php?25,1315189,1315189#msg-1315189 There's many other pages about the DX-1 if you do a search on it.

I will only have the SunRay DX-1. It's like having a 1 inch coil attached to your machine and you don't have to worry about leaving it someplace. It's always with you. I LOVE it along with many others do.

Nancy

In response to the earlier statement that the attached probes can't be left behind - it's also true that they can't be used with your other detector(s) unless compatible. I attached one end of a coiled plastic stretchy cord to my hand held pinpointers and the other end to my belt after leaving one behind and finally losing it.

For a hand-held, I think the Garrett Pro Pointer is hard to beat. It's really well built, sensitive, and is loud enough to hear without having to remove your earphones. In my opinion it is a much better unit than the Bullseye II.

Harbor Freight (CenTech) $16 metal detector. Replace the switch with a Radio Shack push on / push off switch and while you have the back open turn the main sensitivity up some. For less than $20 you have a good pinpointed for coin shooting. It is not the best pinpointed but it will not cost as much. You can be innovative also and add a vibrating motor to this unit also if you like the vibrate option. While you have the solder iron out use the solder iron to make a hole in the case for the new on/ off switch and a hole for the LED light to go through . This will help protect the detector and keep it a little more water resistant.

If I was to buy a high end pinpointed I would go with the Garrett. More sturdy than others out there. I have not heard of any problems with them. I have heard of some switch problems with the Whites but those are far and few.

I have a White's Bullseye and last year got a Garret Pro. I will say the White's is just a backup now.......I love my Garret and recovery is SSSssssooooooo much faster! It is sensitive, small and streamlined. I glued one of those retractable key ring holders to mine......can't lose it now! :)

#1 - DX-1 Pinpointer.:thumbup: #2- Garrett Pro Pinpointer. JMHO. Thanks. CCH

I also have/love the garrett pro pointer. Its rugged, has great battery life and goes deep. Saves lots of time and doesn't add weight to the detector like the sunray style....

[size=large]i bought a MXT PRO recently and it came with the DX-1. if you can handel the extra weight i Now recommend you go with the DX-1. as mentioned before, by Barberbill, some machine don't do well with the garrett. my new MXT is just such a machine. a plus for the mounted probe is it can go from 1" motion detector to all metal non-motion with the flip of the trigger. i was not sold on the DX-1 but i am now. it still gets down to personal choice. for my other machines i still have my garrett. it's okay with my XLT and my aussie. it must be too close to the same KhZ as the MXT.
