What's the formula for comparing elliptical coils to round coils

For instance, 10x14 inch coil is equal to, or comparable to a _____ inch size round coil.
How do you calculate this? (I forgot how) Thankyou very much.
 
I don't know if there is a formula as each coil throws a completely different signal pattern and detects differently. In area coverage a 10x14 DD would be similar to .a 12 inch concentric except for one thing, the concentric throws a cone-shaped signal that at peak depth is only covering and area about the size of a quarter or slightly larger. The DD throws a wedge-shaped signal about two or so inches wide and as long as the coil and detects nearly as deep at each end as it does anywhere else along the coil, plus it has no pinpoint feature and pinpoints off either tip of the coil.

The Eliptical coil thows a squeezed in, elongated, cone-shaped signal that covers a little more area at peak depth than a round concentric. and pinpoints differently than a round coil due to the configuration of the signal pattern and covers a litle more area than a round concentric. Course cone-shaped is a misnomer but the easiest way to describe a concentic signal. In actuality the signal shoots out from the bottom and top of the coil and looks like a hairnet on steroids.

I have heard it from some of the "experts" over here that the usual formula goes like this. If it is a 14X10, then you add them together and divide by 2 to get the equivalent round. So a 14X10 would be the same as a 12 inch round.
