What's your favorite coin hunting coil?

I'm in the market for a new coil for hunting low to moderate trashy areas with low to moderate mineralization. What's your favorites? Really wish there was a 3khz 6" coil though:( Minelab.... are you listening!???????

For trashy areas 6 inch dd hands down is my favorite . That little coil has pulled so many coins out of so called hunted out places for me. I also have found civil war bullets with it in trashy spots.

Hi,

Low - Moderate trash and day to day detecting....5x10" DD HF

High trash.......6" DD HF

T59

9-inch concentric at 3 kHz for the "wide open" sites. And the 6-inch DD at 18.75 for separating targets in those trashy areas. HH Randy

I really like what I'm hearing about that 3khz coil and I do already own the 6"DD. So realistically..... how much deeper should I expect the 3khz coil to go?

I like the 6in concentric coil. It's just a joy to detect with. Light, easy to pinpoint with and gives a good feel for targets. It also covers the ground better than you'd expect. If I had the 6in DD coil, then I'd probably like that as much.

I don't believe my 9-inch concentric at 3 kHz goes "any deeper" than the other 9-inch concentrics. The reason I like the 3 kHz is for the audio responses on targets. It allows me to better identify the "good and the bad" better than the 7.5 kHz or the 18.75 kHz. If you can't find the information I've posted on the differences in response between those coils, let me know and I'll repost it. HH Randy

I've recently been pretty hooked on the 10.5" DD HF in open areas. I've nicknamed it "The Sweeper" since at times I feel like I'm sweeping up coins. I've gone back to areas that I detected at when I had only the stock coil and in some cases have pulled up 5 or 10 times the number of coins than on the first go round.

In trashy areas the jury is still out. I have both 6" coils and they both seem to do pretty well. One has not out shined the other. It seems like in sites that the 6" CC MF coil is not finding anything I'll switch to the 6" DD HF and I'll find stuff. Likewise, going from the 6" DD HF to 6" CC MF has worked well also. I think it really depends on the location.

I need to give the 10.5" DD MF coil another chance. I've only had it on the 705 one time for about 20 minutes and I didn't feel like it was doing as well as the HF coil. If anyone uses that regularly, I'd be interested in hearing their thoughts. Technically, the lower frequency should help find copper and silver better than it's counterpart, depending on ground conditions of course.

I'll agree with some of the others, a 6" Minelab D2 Shooter-type coil does the job, and does it very well...
