whats your opinion of this pulse detector?

Hi David,

Without trying the detector, I would hate to comment as to how well it works. As for using a 9V battery on a PI, I believe the Headhunter PI does just that and it works quite well, I am told.

So, can a PI run on a 9V battery? The answer is yes. Can that PI get the depth's claimed in the ad you mentioned? I don't know. My guess is the key is the size of the coil more than anything and the fact that it will probably take something the size of part of a car body or a tank to generate a signal at the depths mentioned.

In my opinion, the ad hints that the detector is designed to find large deep objects, rather than coins or small items. One might keep that in mind.

i talked with the dealer and he said that the coil can be used in any size or shape imaginable.
what i want to do with it is use PVC to make a coil in an oval shape about 48'' long by 10'' wide.
this way i could cover a 4 foot path on the beach or in the AZ desert and it would still pick up small objects.
i could cover many times the ground that other detectors do. i admit, pinpointing would be difficult but not impossible. whatcha think reg?

If it works, it will be very easy to prove. They need to take it out to a known gold nug site with a group of independent beepers, find the gold record the depth, certified by those observers and everybody will buy one. Right, easy? Wyndham

Hi David,

First, I agree with Don that the detector will most likely not work at any short delay. It is impossible to get a coil the size you mentioned to work at any type of short delay. This will cause many of the gold targets to be eliminated.

Now, if the delay is long enough, then you do not need any ground balance control either, which I don't think this detector has anyway.

So, even if you buy the smaller coils and the delay can be reduced, you will be faced with the ground signals to deal with.

The idea of covering a large area with a long narrow coil is a good one. Unfortunately, a coil the size mentioned will be a problem to move around, as well as use at a shorter delay.

So, my guess is you will mainly detect iron objects or maybe a few copper or silver objects at best.
