Wheat among the nails

I had a little time before lunch today...so I ran the new 10" MF DD over my parent's lawn. This is an old (1910) farmhouse that has had several additions, rebuilds, repairs, etc. done to it over the last 100 years. Needless to say, the lawn is PACKED full of nails. I ran the 9" and the 5x10" over it last spring...and gave up.

Today, I found a couple of clad dimes, a 1951 Rosie, and in one hole - THREE wheat pennies (1910, 1936, 1942). All in about 15 minutes.:detecting: Guess I'll be going over the entire lawn soon....even with the nail signals sounding like Morse Code. LOVE this coil!!

That's really nice for a 15 minute hunt. Wish they were all like that huh? I just ordered the HF 10x5 elliptical and am anxiously awaiting it's arrival. Want to go back over some of the same areas I've already been to and see what else turns up. This is such an interesting hobby with so many variables to keep it interesting. Good luck.

Great finds,
Pulled my first 1948 wheat using the 705 w/ 5x10 HF coil just this week. What settings did you use on the 705 with the 5x10 HF coil. I have a house that I have purposely been ignoring until i get more aquainted with the detector to learn the TID's but i think i have a hang of it so far, just not anything too deep. I usually hunt in Coin/treasure mode 3 and kind of like that setting, sounds like the ACE250.

Just to be absolutely clear....I'm currently using the 10" MF DD coil(sometimes referred to as the 10.5").

As far as settings go, I've been using the same basic settings when I use any of my coils. If it's "chattery", I turn down the sensitivity a little.

Rick's general settings X-Terra 70
Auto Noise Cancel first
Sens 25
Vol 30 (I use headphones with it's own volume control)
Threshold 0
Altered Pattern 1 - nothing notched out (I was notching out -8, but I haven't had much "wrap-around" lately, so I'm running wide open now.)
Multi-tone(99)
Tracking Ground Balance - ON (I haven't actually ground balanced my detector in months. If I'm concerned about the GB, I switch to Prospecting Mode and back, which puts the detector into Fast Track for a few seconds.)

My X-Terra 70 doesn't have the GB offset like the 705's do....so it's basically 0.

Good stuff. I know you run in tracking mode with your X-70. But what is the typical ground phase reading at this site? The reason I ask is because of the increased finds using the DD, I would guess that the ground may be a little "hot" for the concentric, considering they are the same freq. And as your finds suggest, I've gotten more depth from the 10-inch DDs than the elliptical. HH Randy

I just did a quick ground phase check. It's running in the low 30's here.

My other sites run low to mid 20's. So, I'm generally on that 25 line.
