Where I detect

Hello all,
I've had some enquiries as to where the goldfields are that I detect in. My hubby and I live in the Gippsland Mountains of Victoria. I decided to post some photos of the old township in it's heyday of the 1800's, and a current one of what it looks like today. Including myself and Garry, there are only 14 permanent residents. In the 1800's, there were 4,500 people living here. About 55 tonnes of gold was taken within a mile length of the township on the Western side. We live and work here. I've also posted a few pics of where I go detecting, and as you can see, scrub can be very dense. There are a lot of gullies that I explore and I've come across all types of mining machinery, even an old blacksmith's shop! The actual township itself is protected by the historical act, but outside its boundaries, we can detect with ease. We have around 17 ghost towns within a 50km radius from where we live to detect in. Note the old chimneys. We often use old photos to locate old sites. Hope you like the pics!
Cheers Angela

I have drool coming out of the sides of my mouth. Wow, what a deal. I tried to do this in Nevada, but they were ready to lynch me if they caught me, (more or less) so I chickened out. That's a fabulous setup you have there. Keep sending those fine pictures. Like they say, a picture is worth a thousand words, but keep sending the words too, they help describe the pictures. Thanks for sharing that.:O:|:geek:

Hi Jimp,
It's interesting you should ask that. I haven't tried to find gold with the Quattro, but I don't see how one couldn't. If it picks up gold coins and jewerlry, then why not gold nuggets. Just found out that another guy who has an Explorer ll in Australia has picked up small nuggets with his machine. I had asked him the very same question! I'll be going out after the January holidays when I'll have a bit more time, and the mountains to myself! I've got a few nuggets that my hubby found with a White Goldmaster ll. So I'm going to swipe them with the quattro, and build a pattern from that. In my town, the gold is mostly alluvial, or deep lead. About 15km from here, it becomes quite nuggety. Three and 5 ounce nuggets are not uncommon. So it's definitely worth a try!
Cheers Angela:)
