I didn't get out today. Looks like I'm not the only one that couldn't partake. It's getting into the 30s at night around here and mid 40s during the day.

I am going to try to hit it hard tomorrow, for the days are numbered. I need at least one more silver coin for 2009.

I'm thinking about selling some of my finds in order to buy a 10 x 14 coil for the ace. I'm really not sure how to go about that. Not talking about on here but anywhere in general.Such a wide variety of items its hard to find a buyer. I've never done E-bay not sure if that is the way to go.

I want the larger coil to detect my own yard, its about 2 acres and the house has been here since the 20's. I have detected it and found about 40 wheats ,only 1 silver roosevelt , they all were deep. Hoping the larger coil will get me the depth to find the older coins. The front yard is fairly clean since I have hit it on and off for a few years. But my back yard is still full of pull tabs. Every once in awhile I will go dig some just to see if they are masking something better.I have cherry picket it though.

My thought is,,, with a deeper detecting machine I could clean the back yard out and at the same time look for deep coins. That is the reason Im not in a hurry to detect it now since I have figured this out. Well that is if I'm correct about the coins being deeper.
How much deeper do you think the larger coil will go, using the 6.5 x 9 now.

Here's a few pics, and my dog blaze in the driveway. (Cell phone camera so I dont know what they are going to look like)

About three inches deeper. I have the 9x12 and it's 2 to 3 inches deeper than
the stock coil. Say 2 inches just to be on the conservative side.. So the 10x14
oughta be good for 3 more inches if it's tuned and working right. I've never tried
a 10x14 yet, but I assume going by the size it should do about one inch more than
the 9x12 being as the depth pretty much follows the size of the coil.
I think your plan is a pretty good one. I do pretty much the same. I'll use the smaller
coils first to clear the top stuff and trash, and come back with the big coil last to
try to snag deeper stuff that the smaller coils missed. You need the trash and clutter
cleared out to really let the big coils do their thing, and not have masking problems.
The big coils can be a pain if they see a lot of objects at once. Being they are big,
it takes longer to pinpoint and separate the stuff out. But once the yard is clear
of top stuff, the big coils can find the deeper stuff. Also, use a pretty fast swing to
get the most depth. Within reason for such a big coil anyway..

Hi Flash5153:

Yea it geting cold here in Indiana too.
What part of the country you in?

I just got the 9x12 and it's a time saver. You can cover alot of ground
is a short amount of time if thats your need. I bought mine so I can use
in in large plowed fields. I should also add that I also use the MXT with
the super 12 coil as well for the same purpose. When I take someone out
with me who dosen't have a detector yet I let them use the Ace to get
a feel for the machine.

I find that the 9x12 pinpoints fairly easy though it did take about a day of practice
for me to get used to it. Keep in mind that it does add a bit of weight to your
machine. Thats the first thing you'll notice but in a short time you won't even
notice it, unless you've been out there for 6 to 8 hours as I have done and then
your arm feels like it wants to fall off! :)-)

You will get more depth with the 6x9 but so far most coins I've found have been
not more than 4 to 7 inches. Once in a great while I'll hit something deeper.
The 9x12 will serve you well for relic hunting though..

Good luck with your hunting.

Flash,
Your ratio seems wacked man. I am not saying that you are doing any thing wrong but 40 to 1 is steep... Unless some one has gone through there picking only silver. Is that possible?

Just a Rookie and not saying I know, but...

I was thinking about that ratio thing. My count for the year on wheats and silver coins is very close to 1 to 7. (120 wheats, 18 silvers) So yes my yard it is wacked as you say.
But I was trying to say I think the Mercs(older coins) are JUST out of reach of the ace with the stock coil. Many of them wheats from my yard were one way signals(terrible) at about 6" - 7". ( BTW my yard is clay.)

I must say, I have been over the yard and found most of what I stated with the 2200. I just got the ace a few months ago and have been over some of the yard a few times. Found wheats every time but they are getting far and few between.
