Where's the best info for electrolysis?

I have used the search function on this forum but found nothing concrete, I'm mainly worried about cleaning gold rings, that it might take off gold.
I'm currently cleaning silver right now, using the silver ring on the negative clip and a spoon (stainless I suppose) on the positive. It's cleaning it really well, I hope it's not taking off any of the silver as well?

Is this a safe method for cleaning gold? My main concern is sulfur.
