Which camera on the beach...

Okay, I've seen the beautiful photos posted here, both under water and on the beach and I love them. I've also searched the forums and found a few posts about a camera or two but I would really like to know what cameras all of you use on the beach and in the water to make those beautiful pictures. The wife says no way is her Nikon going down there with me and I would really like to have something to take to the beach. Please tell me what you're using, what you like or don't like about it, any problems you've experienced and whether you would buy the same one again. Also, any sample photos with your camera would be great. I know there are lots of photos here but seldom what camera was used. Thanks a lot to anybody who responds. Hope the holidays were good to everybody and the coming year will bring many good things to all of you.

You'll want to soak it in freshwater for 10 minutes when you get home to clear out any salt as it will corrode the metal case. I get good pics from a lightweight and compact camera for under $400.

A Good Deal!

That's one of the cameras I have read up on. From what I've read on it it's built like a tank, very tough. The other one is the Pentax Optio W-30. The idea I've kind of gotten from the research I have done is that these two seem to be rivals and more or less in the same price range. I also wonder how well the waterproof cases work with non waterproof cameras. Thanks for your reply and your photos are some of the ones I always enjoy seeing.

I just posted some pics. from the mountains in Ga. took them with Pentax Optio W30. I still just shoot on auto, but if you use the settings I am sure you will get better pics.HH

Sure looks cold up there but the pics are beautiful. Wish you had found some gold but I'm sure 2008 will be good to you. Thanks for the info on your camera, I've heard good things about it and the pics sure do look good. I'm a research nut and can talk myself into and out of things more than anybody I know. I know that all cameras, like everything else, have their strengths and weaknesses so I just need to go ahead and bite the bullet on one.
Thanks again.

I also have the Olympus Stylus 770 SW and it is worth its weight in gold. I use it on boating trips in and out of the water (submersible to 33 feet), it's shockproof (you can accidentally drop it from about 4 or 5 feet), and it's resistant to cold temperature. The best feature for me is the fact that the lens does not protrude from the camera (less moving parts to fail).

I agree with BDA, excellent easy to use right out of the box. Nice Pict's too.

Since I'm new to detecting, I hope to have some nice pict's of fresh finds to share, or at least nice pict's of the beautiful beaches around Miami...
