im still looking for input on which way to go with new coil purchase.can anyone tell me how much more depth you get with the 12 or 14 inch minelab coil, the sunray coil and the wot coil...also are the tones the same on the aftermarket coils...any help would be appreciated...jt

WELL I HAVE THE WOT AND LIKE IT WHEN I USE IT. I HAVE BEEN HUNTING ALOT OF SEMI TRASHY AREAS LATLEY GETTING STUFF LEFT BEHIND FROM HUNTERS THAT ARENT ONE WITH THERE MACHINE. FOR THIS I HAVE BEEN USING THE PLATYPUS COIL DEPTH IS VERY GOOD. THE WOT HAS ITS ADVANTAGES FOR DIFFERENT APPLACATIONS IN THE FIELD BUT THERE IS A LEARNING CURVE ITS A BIG COIL. I HAVE ALSO HUNTED WITH THE 14 EXCELLERATOR NOT A BAD COIL BUT PREFER WOT. BUT TO ANSWER YOUR QUESTION I THINK YOU WILL GET MORE VERSITILITY AND USE FROM THE SUNRAY 12. IT GOES VERY DEEP YET IS STILL IN THE SIZE RANGE THAT WILL ALLOW YOU USE IT MORE OFTEN IN THE FIELD. HOPE THIS HELPS =)

Do you thin the WOT goes deeper than the 12" Sunray? I have the WOT, but have never really used it. Is the depth meter accurate when using it? Very annoying when a coil causes that thing to be off - I don't know why the hell they don't account for that with some coils.

THATS A LOADED QUESTION. UNDER IDEAL CONDITIONS IN A PERFECT TEST GROUND THE WOT SHOULD GO SLIGHTLY DEEPER THAN THE 12. BUT WHEN YOU GET INTO REAL HUNTING CONDITIONS THEN YOU MIGHT BE BETTER OFF USING YOUR STOCK COIL OR PLATYPUS. JAMES ND HUNTS WITH HIS STOCK COIL ALMOST ALL THE TIME AND IN EVERY CONDITION YOU CAN THINK OF AND HE HAS NO PROBLEM FINDING DEEP COINS. I KNOW WHAT YOU MEAN ABOUT THE METER I HAVE NOTICED THE SAME THING. BUT IM IN THE HABIT OF RECOVERING GOOD SOUNDING COIN TARGETS SHALLOW OR DEEP. WHEN I GO TO RECOVER IF OUT OF REACH OF X1 THEN IM CROSSING MY FINGERS. HECK I HAD A BUDDY PULL A SEATED DIME AT A POUNDED PARK IN FARGO ND AT 2" THATS PROBALLY WHY IT WAS STILL THERE. THE SEASONED HUNTER DIDNT WANT TO BEND OVER AND DIG THAT CLAD. IF YOU WANT TO WHEN USING A LARGER COIL LOWER YOUR GAIN THIS WILL HELP YOU BE ABLE TO HEAR IF THE TARGET IS DEEPER. AND IF YOUR NOT HARD OF HEARING(HEARING WOULD HAVE TO BE PRETTY BAD) YOU WONT MISS ANY GOOD TARGETS. I HAVE MANY DIFFERENT COILS AND THEY ALL HAVE PURPOSE IN THE FIELD BUT KNOW YOUR MACHINE. WHEN I SWITCH COILS THEN I SWITCH SETTINGS IT JUST DEPENDS ON WHERE IM AT AND THE SIZE OF COIL IM USING.
