Which Detector To Keep - G2 or F75?

I have a Teknetics G2 and a Fisher F75. Both are in excellent condition. My wife has informed me that one needs to go for some cash. Which one should I part with and why. Your help in deciding this will be greatly appreciated. Unfortunately I like both detectors so this wil be a tough decision.

Without know what your hunting needs are or other personal factors, the F75 is a higher end machine and is more versatile and has better battery life. The G2 is a great machine and both are top of the class ergonomically. While the G2 may out do the F75 by a small margin in some areas, the F75 will be close enough and it can do several things better than the G2. You will probably regret parting with the one you sell no matter which one you choose. Why not find a couple diamond rings and sell those?

Well, the wife is overruled for now and I will keep both detectors. In the long run the money won't matter. Tomorrow I head out early to hunt the volleyball sand with the G2.

I bought both the F75 and G2 right after the models were released. I now own only the F75, but there are times when I do miss the G2. If the G2 had a volume control and back light, I think I would have kept that one.

I believe I am headed in this direction as well. My wife is aggravated that I have purchased two detectors at this time. The idea was that I would keep the one I liked the most. I tend to agree with the lack of volume on the G2. Did you consider your G2 volume to be too loud or too soft? Mine tends to be too soft without headphones and faint signals are barely audible. My headphones have volume control but I need to crank the volume all the way up. I do like the backlight of the F75 as well. The last detector I had with a backlight was a Compass Coinscanner Pro which was 20 yeas ago. I remember hunting quite a bit in the late evening which was relaxing.

Why not just use a pair of headphones with a volume control built in? That way the volume issue on the G2 is no longer a problem.

Hi Smudge,

I do have a set of headphones with volume control. The problem is that my G2 volume is so soft when in disc mode. If the gain is not up 100% the volume is very soft. On shallow targets this is not so much a problem. On deep targets however, if the gain is not 100% they are hard to hear even with a good set of headphones. Without the headphones, my g2 is almost too quiet when detecting a target.

Thanks for the clarification Lloyd. I'm trying to think of a solution to your problem, but I'm not finding one.

Do you find this happening even with larger targets at the same depth as smaller ones?

I'm just wondering how much of a factor target size is in all this.

CALL Fisher maybe somethink is wrong with your machine

I use the G2 and Killer Bs Headphones and the volume is very loud at 1/2 setting on the headphones....so maybe you should get your G2 checked out.

I wish there was another guy in my area with a G2 so I could compare mine with theirs. I live in Farmington, MI near Detroit.

Unfortunately headphones are not created equal or for that matter some just work better on certain units and this should be taken into consideration.

Keep both detectors and ask the wife which one she wants to use to generate some cash. Of course I am not married so I don't
know quite how the discussion would progress! Ha!
