would be the best selection for hunting mainly jewlry on the dry and wet (and sometimes very mineralized) beach sand, and a little beyond the waters edge? I'm not looking for one with a submersible control box. Thanks.

Everybody claims that the Sovereign GT is tops for that application. If you hip mount it you can get into the water some as well. I was going to buy that unit but instead opted for the Explorer II. HH

Indeed any Sov. model hipmounted should do a good job hipmounted leaving one hand open for a retrieval scoop or shovel..Of course an Explorer will do the job quite well also but its weight and bulkiness would be a problem on a beach in my estimation...Heck don't even the meter with the Sov.just go by the tones and should be digging all anyway...Hard to find Seasearch coil would be a plus on the Sov..

The Quattro is a killer on the beach. I am sure the others mentioned are very good but I have been well pleased with the quattro. The depth is just unbelievable. Check out the quattro forum and talk to some of the users there and get their opinion. Good luck with what ever you choose.
