Which Should I Buy- EX II or Quattro?

Hi, I'm leaning towards a Quattro. However I wonder if the back light and dual ferrous/conductivity read-out on the EX II, is important to have? I use Excaliburs and recently purchased a Sov GT, thinking it would be more similar to my Excaliburs- tone-wise... But now am wondering if perhaps a Quattro might not be a better choice? But before I purchase a Quattro, I thought I had better make sure about not getting an EX II instead? I'm not too interested in tweaking my machine. For that I would get a DFX! I like to cherry-pick with my Excaliburs in water and would do same with my land machine. So if any of you use both Quattro/EX II, which do you prefer? Thanks, Chris.

I had the Quattro and now have the Explorer II. I also have a CZ-70 and an Excalibur. I use the Excal on the beach...of course...and the Explorer II on the land. I hunted the beach with the Quattro and it was awesome...the best beach machine I have ever used, even better than the Excal as far as the depth. Unfortunately, not a water machine. So although it excels at the beach, I will stick with the Excal.

As for land hunting, I did very well with the Quattro on land. I went back to a number of my previously pounded sites and pulled a few nice things from each, including silver, bullets, and buttons. It's a very capable machine. I do think though that for LAND hunting, I prefer the Explorer II and it's extra tweakability and the info it gives you. I like the dual-digital mode and use that as my default. I do switch back and forth between that and Smartfind but feel I get more info and am more comfortable with the dual digital. That may be a throwback to my DFX days where I used to love to cherry pick quarters and stuff. The Explorer II also has a faster recovery speed and may be better for working a trashy site.

But the Explorer II and Quattro are nothing like your Excals. I haven't tried the Sovereign GT but did own an Elite that I liked beach hunting with so much that I sold it and got the Excal.

So I hope I haven't confused the choice too much, but suffice to say that you can't go wrong with either of them.

I was faced with the same delimma back in the spring. I opted for the Explorer II as I did not want the machine or myself to be limited. I downloaded both manuals, and studied them before making my choice.
The advantages for the Exp II are as follows: Faster recovery, DUAL numerical data to ID targets. You are using a grid with X & Y coordinates and 1024 possible combinations verses a linear readout with 32 increments. I have hunted alongside Quattros in mineralized soil, and did not have a problem, but the Quattros did, although they are pretty good in adverse conditions. The Explorer just goes up a few notches. The programability can't be beat, even though you say you don't want to tweak, you will, as you will use it to overcome the various conditions that you will encounter. In my mind, the extra expense was worth it and I havent looked back.

If you have the cash get the 2, also the extras are there like different coils etc. if you got the cash get the best on the market hate to do all the walking for nothing.
