Which Tesoro will be next?

Own the Vaquero and I'm looking to buy my second Tesoro, so after spending a good amount of time in these forums I've decided on the Compadre or Silver umax. Both great in their own way, both a must have, in my opinion. Decisions, decisions. No interest in tones or displays right now - having a lot of fun and finding much more with Tesoros excellent beep 'n dig technology then I did with my "high end" detectors - funny how that works. Any thoughts which might be a good number 2?
Thanks,
Mike/53Silver

I would go with the silver mainly you can exchange coils with your vaquero !

I thought the umax coils where different then the coils for the Cibola, Vaquero, etc.

Silver uMax coil does not work on Vaquero!!!

Buy both of them....both are great detectors and both together are less than the price of a new Vaquero! Problem solved,......

I stand corrected...:drinking:

Since you are considering machines without manual ground balance, have you thought about the Cibola...Any extra coils you buy can be used on both the Cibola and Vaquero, and the Cibola is a great unit for coins and jewellery. JMO

Hi Furious
After using the Vaquero this past year and seeing what it can do, and how much I've recovered, especially after years of higher end Whites and Minelab units, I'd like to go for even less, in terms of settings, and see what the Compadre or Silver will do. I'll more then likely, at some point, get a Cibola, but for now I'd like one of the other two. I'm sure I'm going to be one of those guys with 4 - 5 Tesoros, maybe more! I'll probably put my Etrac up for sale soon, just don't use it. I appreciate the feedback.

I have a Vaq and love hunting with it, but I kept reading about the extra sensitivity that the Compadre has and how easy it is to find some items like fine gold chains.
I bought one and after just a few hunts, one in particular, I am impressed.

I have stated in several posts here and on another forum I believe EVERYONE should have one of these in the arsenal...
Now, more than ever, I am convinced of this.

Plus, it's just FUN!

Hey Digger27 thanks for the link. I've checked out your posts regarding the Compadre and it's one of the reasons I'm considering it. My only reservation is the smaller 5.75 inch coil. I wish they stayed with the 7 incher. I hear there isn't really any difference in depth between the two, well, not much anyway. The Compadre gets a lot of praise and based on results, is another Tesoro must have. Thanks for the feedback.

Yea, I am glad I have the older 7 inch coil model, but even so, hunting a large park site would drive me nuts, but I didn't buy this great little unit for that, anyway.
I put a 10x12 DD coil on mine this summer and I am loving that, too, so I am all set for just about every situation on land.

Get the Compadre if those are your only 2 choices. It does a great job finding small gold in tot lots.

What can the Silver do that the Vaquero can't do equally as well or better?

Good point. The Disc on the Compadre is another reason it has my attention.

This is why I love this thing.

When I say the disc is razor sharp, I mean it.
Love the Vaq, but right at the area where things break, the Compadre seems a little better.
There is a little more play in the Vaq disc on some items, like trash, which might tend to confuse me from time to time.
I am using it to find stuff I might pass by in the iron section on my Vaquero, and I am really attempting to learn to use it and figure out these trash signals a little better so maybe I can feel confident on passing by at least some of the signals that I know in my heart of hearts are garbage.
Still dig most every solid signal, but at the end of my hunts when I get tired, it would be nice to increase my chances of digging the good stuff and not have a bad case of the "what ifs" if I actually pass a signal or two by.

Plus, the Compadre really is a little more sensitive than my Vaq no matter which coil I am using.
Might have something to do with that smaller coil, or the different circuitry, but most probably the fact that the Compadre is a "true" 180 ED, where the Vaq is actually more like 160 ED in real life.

Thanks DiGGER - It's been looked at as a "specialty md" but if that means a more articulate disc, pin-point accuracy and recovering more. . . I'll probably get the Compadre and pick up the Silver latter on. Thanks so much for your feedback.

I think that is a good choice, and I have full confidence that you won't be sorry.
One more thing I didn't mention, and I am sure Sllingshot and other users will back me up on this, even though it does not have a pinpoint button none is needed due to the laser-like xing abilities.
More importantly, the sizing ability on this thing is fantastic.
I am good with the Vaq in this area, and even with my F2, but sometimes I swear I can tell the size difference between a dime and a quarter in the ground with this thing.
I am probably crazy, but it sure seems that way, and this is just another thing I have learned to love about this thing.

Be sure to make one of those wonderful videos when you get it...I will be looking forward to that!

Exactly! This post says it all.

Yep, I'd get the Compadre. Get close to those monkey bars. Here is a vid I did of how close you can get.
