While out detecting ..............

Elton

New member
I have met several new people detecting. Their choice of machines have been the F75 SE, and T2 SE..... Their actually doing pretty well for Newbies.

I did notice that each person ..One Male, and One female, were using very high Sensitivity, and very low Discrimination. Each had expressed a very "HIGH" Level of frustration.

I suggested to the Lady she turn up the Discrimination to 40 on the T2 .......... and lower the sens to 60 to 70 ........... also she might want to try DE mode rather than boost unless in tall grass or very old sites.

She immediately started finding Coins, and had a lot less falsing... Her Husband saw this and did different settings on his F75 to lower sens and raise the disc .. As a result both were enjoying detecting more than they had been while digging many garbage finds..

If your new to the machines made by First Texas I would suggest to anyone... TURN DOWN THE SENS !! At least till you know the machine better... The lower setting will allow you to separate targets better, and find the coins in trashy parks. Also some discrimination won't hurt either.

I guess the natural instinct after reading the manual is fire up to the max for best results..when in fact less is sometimes more.. This holds very true if you are new to detecting..

So lower the settings folks.Learn the machine, and in my opinion you will enjoy the hobby more in the beginning.. You'll have plenty of time to power hunt after you learn the basics..

By the way... Carl & Barbara ....... It was a pleasure meeting you. Your both doing swell. I know your reading this forum, and hope to see some posts and finds soon.

nice of you to help them, i find myself trying to run my t2 to hot alot of times all that popin and chattering will make you miss targets and might give a guy a headache after a while lol hh

Just what we need. More people detecting that know what they are doing :) Just kidding. It's good to take pitty on newbies. There's a ship load of detectors setting in closests because their new owners gave up on them.

Good job Elton! I too try to help those newer to the hobby than me. I learn a lot here and other forums because someone was kind enough to "share" with me (and everyone else) so I try to return the favor.

They were nice people, and I was very happy to pass on what little knowledge I have learned..

I would like to say the lower sens and some discrmination idea would work on any detector type... Not just Fishers or Teks....

Elton, you are so right about turning the power down to get the machine stable. I always find myself starting at 85-90 or more, then going back to 80 or less on the sensitivity to get her to quiet down a little. Great point even for the oldies...

Elton nice job. Who knows what might happen? I did the same thing a few years ago and ended up with a hunting partner. You just never know.... Z
