Why does Minelab supply the new Exploere SE with the useless....

........10.5" coil??? In our heavy trashed parks and ballfields where 80% of our searching is done this coil is all but useless. Why do they not provide the choice of a smaller coil for the standard option???That would be much more usefull and show that Minelab respects it's cust wishes!!!

I know for some areas an 8" coil will be the better choice, But as big the 10.5" inch coil is it still gets remarkable separation.

This is due to the fast audio recovery speed on all models of the Explorer, Now with the SE model having a much faster visual processing ID will be up to speed with the already fast audio recovery speed.

I've seen veteran Explorer users using the WOT coil in trashy areas and still getting finds missed by the Minelab 8" coils, Many times it depends on the user.

Our parks are super trashy also, you just need to learn to go super slow to work between the trash and still get some good depth. I wouldnt use a smaller coil, just remember to slow down in the trashy sites.

Actually, The SE coil is a 10" inch coil. They used a molding similar to the 10" Tornado, The new SE coil is really a 10" coil and not 10.5".

The only difference between the Sovereign 10" Tornado coil and the new 10" SE coil are the ears and placement of the coil cable, The new SE had some fat trimmed off the ears and the coil cable is mounted about a 1/2 inch away from the original Tornado coil cable. Both coils have the ears mounted in the same position as well, Both are equally balanced.

Compare the SE coil against the 10" Tornado if you have both, Or check out both pictures below.

The SE coil is 1/2 inch smaller than the stock 10.5" Explorer coil as shown in the lowest pic below, I did an air test with the SE using both coils and the air test results are the same.

Paul,

The Explorer 10.5" coil was actually a 10" coil winding inside of a 10.5" housing. The new SE 10" coil is the same winding size as the old one.

And that also explains the difference in coil size housings, Same size windings on both coils which explains the same depth on both coils.

Thanks again,
