my first metal detector was a scorpion , great machine but lot of learning why Garrett cant you make this metal detector automatic ground balance, i can tell you it will be a hit!!!!!
 
the same reason classic sports cars dont have automatic transmissions :)
 
Probably because auotmatic ground balance wasn't really perfected when it came out. If they had introduced it later on it would not be a Scorpion, but something else. Either way, once the tones are learned on the Scorp, it really helps to ID good targets. Learning the Scorp is like learning a Fender or Gibson Guitar well.

Funny thing, no one is discounting, demand is still high for the units. No reason for any dealer to dump them less than cost.
You would have to watch for someone who didn't care for the machine looking for an ID-multi-tone unit or from one who can't figure out tuning. Then you might
be able to pick one up used at a good price.
