Why still no news of new High end MD from GARRETT

Several months ago users of this forum were asking why Garrett had not announced details of a new machine to compete with the likes of Whites etc - I am staggered that there is STILL no news - can anyone please update us on the situation?

Top Secret/Classified information, but believe me, I can sympathize with your need to know;)Welcome to the forum and Happy Hunting!

Garrett has a long history of staying quiet about any new machine they are working on until it is just about ready for market. There are a few rumors and hints that they are working on a new high end consumer model but it is unrealistic to expect that any details will leak out about it before Garrett is ready to start its marketing campaign for a new machine.

You can be sure they won't rush it to market either - they will, as they always have, take their time and insure that the machine is really ready to go before they release it - though I think it would be a good idea for them to include a usb port so they can release new firmware updates that can be installed using a PC and usb cable in order to eliminate the need to send the unit back to them in order to upgrade the firmware. Most other electronic devices that include firmware operate this way now, there is no reason detectors shouldn't work this way too.

I have an ACE 250 and want to upgrade but don't relish the thought of buying into old technology - its a bit of a dilemma as the GTI1500/2500 are really getting on but I would like to stay with the Garrett brand -

Garrett doesn't drop any hints until it's ready to come out and I've been one of their field testers for 15 years. They're extremely secretive. I did hear one would be out in the fall.

I heard it will size, Id, and depth like the 2500 except give you a photo graphic quality image and cover ground as fast and deep as a 2box and yet pick through trash like a 6" DD.

I'm just sayin'

I think it will be a detector that will be computerized with discrimination for water and beach use.I see more Minelabs at the beach than any other detector out there. The discriminating detectors do not have the depth of a P.I. machine and i will just stick with my Sea Hunter because i have figured out that different metal items are in different location in the the surf. Iron, wire, and hairpins are closer to the waters edge than any other metal move about 10 feet into the water and you can start finding more valuable targets. At high tide everything that was there is no longer there. The ocean is always been a mystery to man and it will always be.

I'm waiting for the feature that exists on a new Army Mine Detector that displays a 3-D image of what is in the ground. That would be the ultimate.
