Why would I upgrade and to what?

At this point, I'm really addicted to metal detecting. I've had a few detectors and I've had my Safari for a few years. If I wanted something better (???) what would I look at?

Maybe an ETrac?
If you want to do water, I'd recommend the Excal.
If you just HAVE to spend a bunch of money, I'd wait until they make the CTX3030 with better seals and then get that (unless something better comes out in the meantime).

The Etrac has more discrimination points compared to the Safari, I think it has 80 compared to Safari 50. Myself I just cant justify the money for the CTX, I think if I were doing a lot of wet MDing I would have to agree with KinTN & go with a Excalibur. If you don't need waterproof I think I would go with an Etrac

I think you already have what you need but I can understand the need for new.First I would wait a little longer and see what Garrett's new Proto Type I saw on one of the digger shows can do if it is a PI detector with good discriminator it will make most detectors obsolete. If you can not wait I would go with ETrac. The 3030 just has too many issues going against it right now.The whites V3i has a learning curve but here in Illinois in our black soil it will go 2 inches deeper and cut unnecessary iron digs by 80% in comparison to Etrac,Safari, and 3030.I use the safari 95% of the time and I have the free use of a friends 3Vi,He has been using an XP Dues lately.I have been doing really good this year with Safari, last weekend I found a silver war nickel at measured 9 inches and a Lady's silver ring with black onyx stone at 10 inches both came in real well.I have been also, like you waiting to buy a better/deeper detector that exceeds the performance of the Safari for the additional cost and there is not one detector out there at this time that can do that,so it looks like I am going on year 4 with the Safari.

I do love my Safari and I have it set up the way I like. I might get another coil if I can find one that I believe will be considerably different then the stock. I do have a small sniper, but I don't use it much. I need more coverage for most of my detecting.
