I wanted to suprise my wife for Christmas last year. I started early like two years ago. LOL I bought what I needed for the top in 05 and started work on this in Nov. 07. I have been debating posting this but what the heck.

It is a log cabin quilt, king size I might add. (105" X 105" ) This is my first time doing anything like this. When I was growing up on the farm mom said I needed to know how to do things that a woman normally does just in case I ever had to take care of my home. So she taught me how to sew, knit, crochet, cross stitch, and cook. I had to hide and do this at a local sewing store. So she would not find out. The women at the shop could not believe it was my first time sewing a quilt.

Don't get me wrong metal detecting is not taking second place to this. Problem is everyone in the family wants me to make them one..

My son said I was having a strange mid life crisis....LOL So ladies what do you think?

few these days can teach their kids anything. A 'well done' both for you and your Mom. (You turned out well..she planted seed and it grew).

You are a jack of all trades bro! What else have you not told us about you? I love the quilt! My wifes aunt made us a king size for our bed! maybe I will get a pic and post it!

Gunswinger, that is STUNNING!! You sure are a talented gentleman. It is beautiful !

I can appreciate all the workmanship you put into that quilt because although I have never made a quilt as beautiful as that, ( I have crocheted and knitted mediocre - quality quilts) , I too love to do crafts and I am aware of the many hours of patient work involved.
Thanks for sharing the photos with us

That'll fit this old 1830 house like a glove.

That is one incredibly beautiful quilt  Your wife must have been thrilled!

I don't think that's a mid-life crisis thing at all... Heck, I'd love to do something like that! My mom showed me how to knit and crochet too. She also taught me how to cook and, consequently, I do ALL the cooking in this house (love to cook) :)

Funny thing...I can remember giving my wife a gift; (before we were married) a scarf I knitted for her :)

Thanksgiving for about 30+ people. It was her last. I remember when I was on the farm we couldn't afford knitting needles so I used some large nails. We took old clothes and tore them into strips and make rag rugs for the house with them.. We used feed sacks made of cloth for shirts and dresses. We never let anything go to waste. Made a dollie out of butcher string. We were poor. But we loved each other and had a lot of great times. Playing ball after working in the fields all day. Used a broken maddox handle for a ball bat. I never owned a baseball glove until I was an adult. Had records for an old portable record player. Played records in the evening on the front porch and watched the sun set. Like I said a lot of good memories.

she even taught me how to shave.. I remember her telling me not to let the razor go sideways or it would cut me. To much sports, and television for kids to learn anything now days. Thanks again.
