wifes F2 which coil is best upgrade?

Tajue17

we got this as a package with the sniper coil so wondering about another coil upgrade,, she can have any machine she wants and does not want a new machine she has to re- learn so the F2 stays same as my hard earned money so what coil do you Fisher owners think is the best upgrade for this machine.

thanks T

The only other coil that I would consider would be the 11" DD.

Mark

I did some swinging with the 10" concentric and I liked it especially for the price.
A little heavier, but it did get a little deeper than the 8" with clearer signals on the deeper ones, too.
I actually am recommending the 11"DD, however, because I don't believe it is as heavy as the concentric, it gets pretty deep from what I have read and that long scan pattern does not miss much.
I used to hate hunting with DD coils around a lot of bottle caps because they are such a problem, but after learning the rimming technique I have eliminated digging more than 90% of these hated things with my F70 and I know this works on the F2 also.

The answer really depends on what kind of hunting she does and how adding weight to the detector will impact her. I started with an F2 and added an 11 for much the same reasoning. I was disappointed and didn't care for the new coil. I came to see that the lack of ground balance adjustment was a bigger factor for me and that meant a different detector so I moved on. It is really a matter of her specific situation. But I hope my experience is helpful.

hmm yes no ground balance and pasttom you bring up a good point about the upgraded coil,,, is it even worth it on this machine with no ground balance.

but so far 11" DD is the one if you guys think the F2,,, if I did get this coil for her will it also work on the next couple fishers say the F4 F5 maybe F70

Tajue17, Coils will interchange between the F2 and F4 since they are basically the same platform. F4 will give you ground balance but in all metal mode only. The F5 would be my choice for an upgrade from the F2. Hope this helps----------IB

yeah I think eventually I'll have to accidently back over the F2 and apologize by insisting she get the F5,,, but it will be me setting it up at each outing and if its not as good as her F2 I Might get hit over the head with it ha ha

one last thing we never tried the sniper coil that comes with the fisher package is it a decent coil or don't bother putting it on?

Decent?
Yea, I would say so.
I found a ton with the 8" coil, a few great things with the 10", but by far I found way more with the sniper than both of those put together.
This is not only at new sites but at old sites I hunted in the past with bigger coils and thought I cleaned out...but didn't.
Coins galore, silver and gold jewelry and a lot of it, 9 gold targets were found by this coil in 2013 alone.
Once I mounted this coil it rarely ever came off and many others have done the same.

Some of my better finds with the F2 and sniper in 18 months use.

If she likes to hunt trashy sites looking for jewelry like I do, this coil is literally worth its weight in gold.

Revier,, that's good to hear. thanks to everyone who posted yeah I'm going to just get her the F5 and tell her to leave the sniper on the F2 because we do hit some sights where it is needed but she never puts it on or we just forgot to bring it (still in plastic)

thanks for everything lots of good info.

The 11" DD is a huge improvement over the stock coil.

Back a couple years ago, I ordered my F-2 in the 3 coil package offer that included a hand wand detector and other things. Have never regretted that purchase so far with the only difficulty being when swapping coils for changed conditions or kind of hunting I'm doing and that has been the blasted limited access to the connector. I guess Fisher is entitled to make one mistake like anyone else in design but I sure wish they would offer an extension adaptor of some sort. The F-2 machine and coils work as well as any other in my opinion but I typically hunt by sounds, not bells and whistles. In my area, I have used more often the 4" size and DD coils on my machines but the usual standard coils have also been put to good use so never hurts to have a few coil options on hand. I'm personally not a fan of hand wand detectors but for very tiny Gold, get yourself a Falcon MD20.

I have the NEL Sharpshooter I leave on my F2. Light, faster and more coverage per swing than the 8", stable. The F5 is a great choice. Was my fave for 7 years. Little heavier but better command. Not a lot deeper than the F2 though.

FWIW- My Quick Draw Pro outperforms my F2, and if I can get a Sharpshooter for it, I'll probably let it go.

I also have the NEL Sharpshooter on my F2. I'd like to add I'll probably never take it off. The NEL helps with ground which the F2 doesn't have.

Would you mind sharing a link of what the sniper coil looks like that you used
with your F2. And what size is it.

Looks like I am going to try the F2.

Thanks so much!
Larry

The Nel Sharp Shooter makes a difference from concentric cone shape to DD book shape design of detecting search

my old thread,,, an update to this is we didn't end up getting anything yet because of an injury the dirt fishing needed to wait. still though a new coil or machine is coming,, that 11DD might be the ticket AND now I'm personally wanting a F70 so you'll be hearing more from me this year

So what's the deal, man?
I got a Vaq, my finds and opinions about the 3 years I spent with the F2 are well documented, for three years the F70 has shocked me and that doesn't look like that will end anytime soon.
I use logic and common sense when picking the detectors I have used and I have never been disappointed for one second...yet.
Are you following in my footsteps or just a coincidence....inquiring minds are curious.:lmfao:

To clarify, the F2 coils only work on the F4 and select Bountyhunter models with the same cable connector, and maybe a Teknetic model or two. The early models had a 'push-in' style, while the current is the screw-in style. The F-5, F-11, F-19, F-22, F-44, Gold Bug are in their own family (with some exceptions). YMMV as there are various models of Gold Bugs. And maybe push-in connectors on early f5 and F19, I don't know...
I do know that NEL coils were available with both styles of connectors from Golddigger.

The Fisher sniper coil is 4". Here is a video. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9l3b2kj0Mpw
The sniper allows you to get closer to playground equipment, sidewalks, and metal fences, too.
Thanks Revier for all the F2 info and inspiration I have gleaned from you! I am now on to an AT Pro.

Thanks man...this vid brings me back, I had some great times with the F2 and that hockey puck dirt cheap sniper coil was a big part of all that since hanging out in trashy sites more often than not is my thing...still is so snipers for all my detectors is a must for me.
Hundreds and hundreds of dollars in clad it found me and literally it was worth its weight in gold.

Have fun with the Pro, like for me and the F70 a whole new level of hunting and experiences await.
