Hi Tex,
The Beachscan has been made by Pulsepower Developments for about seven years now. It started out as a design for a more economical PI detector that used standard AA batteries, but still had good performance. The original Beachscans were conventional shaft mounted control box units but the present Beachscan MK2 has a belt mounted control box only. This makes for a very light and non tiring shaft and coil design. The performance is similar to a C.Scope CS7 or a modified Whites SMPI i.e. it will detect coins and rings to a foot or sometimes more. If the Beachscan is used with the optional 11in coil then you could expect a 1 - 1.5in gain over the SMPI. It is self tuning a motion type PI, so it continually adjusts itself to the beach mineralisation.

and can the Pulse Delay be adjusted like the CS-7 to help identify the gold compared to the iron? Forgive me if I don't have the correct term as I still have a lot to learn about pulse. I've read where the CS-7 can be adjusted to allow the gold to drop out while the iron stays at a certain setting.
From what you said, the Whites SMPI sounds like it is a pretty good machine when it's modified. What modifications are you referring to and where can those be done? What about some of the other low/mid priced pulse units like the PIrana, SandShark, etc.?
I suppose like most water hunters, I'm not interested in finding coins, only the gold jewelry. Can these machines be "fine tuned" to "hit" on the gold stronger than stock?
Hope these questions don't sound too ignorant and thanks for all your input...

The frequency control on the Beachscan MK II can be adjusted in use to be able to distinguish between gold, and iron. It
