The kind like there putting on the E-trac and explorer se pro.. I would love to see one for my 70 to keep the weight down .. the 10.5's are heavy compared to the 11 inch pro..

I hope they do it .. Common sense leads a man to belive they will do it ... I need a HF pro coil for deeeeep buttons!!

Hey Keith, how does the 10.5 coil do aside from its weight issues?....
Yeah, I am kinda like you, the reason I got the Xterra 70 was for its light weight.
When I want a heavier detector, I just reach for my Explorer:biggrin:.

I have the 10.5 7khz and just ordered the 18.75khz....their heavy compared to the concentrics and the eliptical. I only swing them when I'm not swinging the Etrac with the SEF on it. All kidding aside, I just have them for the wee bit more depth and its still lighter than the etrac. The xterra does become a little tip heavy with the 10.5's though and feels out of ballance.. I ordered the 18.75 khz to check out in the gold field.. I like the elipitical DD and figure the 10.5 might just give me a bit more depth.... The xterra just keeps me coming back.

and it takes a few minutes to get use to the different balance. But I've found reversing the direction that you mount the coil eliminates the weight issue. Be prepared to lengthen the rod to keep from hitting your toes. HH Randy

Great idea Randy! You gave us something to experiment with.

I wonder if a Fibreglass middle rod is available for the X-70 that I am unaware of?? Or does someone have some plans to build one at home. A person could just copy the aluminum one with the appropriate sized (ID and OD) Fibreglass(or plastic) tube stock, cut it off and drill the holes BUT the threaded lock nut may be a problem to install.

From DOC is Las Vegas, I replaced the aluminum one and installed an upper Fibreglass rod(with lock nut) for my GP 3000, it works great and that exact same rod can be used on a Sovereign, Eureka Gold, and Musky straight shaft models as well. Especially for larger coils or any coil, it keeps as much metal away from the coils as possible to maximize sensitivity.

Any feedback??

Uhhhh...Well, I guess I gotta try that.

Keith,

To throw out my guess at an answer to your question on making the Pro coils available for the Xterra 70, I would love it too but since there is a reasonable amount of electronics down in the coil that sets the operating frequency of the detector and other things, it is going to be very difficult to get that electronics into the Pro coil form factor. They might be able to come up with a lighter coil in the future but I would bet it won't be the exact form factor as the new Pro 11" pro coil.

I have the mid frequency (7.5 KHz) 10" DD coil and while it is a great coil, as you say, it is on the heavy side. I would like them to come up with a lighter version in the 11" range also.

God Bless and HH

I think what they need to do is make all the the metal parts out of carbon fiber. the material they use for bike frames. It is super strong and very light. I'll bet it would help so much on the Minelab family. :clapping:
I love inventions, to bad I don't have the knowledge to do this. * : (

Thanks, great idea I never thought of that! Maybe I could go to a bike manufacturing company and buy some carbon fiber tube stock of the right ID and OD and make middle and/or upper shafts for my detectors.

You're very welcome, let me know how that works out.
